I have been a member of ABC since 2005 was once known as El Piche. Thought I knew it all until I found myself in the biggest mess ever because of stupidity and being so naive about the game. Took a well deserved sabbatical and put some focus and perspective back into my life. Realized whats important and whats not.

Prioritized in ffg order

1. FAMILY
2. Health
3. Business
4. Sport
5. Racing

Now I skip racing for sometimes 2-3 weeks at a time if I am busy and when I do play I have a budget and stick to it. And surprisingly enough I hardly spend my budget and sometimes show a good profit that immediately gets withdrawn and spent on my family.

So for those taking a break, well done guys. You will definitely come back stronger. For those who boast about their winnings and all those imaginary winning bets you have taken stop bluffing yourselves.

This is a very important realisation, Punter.

I have found after 40+ years of punting ( clearly I am not a quick learner! ) that two issues dramatically improve my success/failure rate:

1.) I absolutely HAVE TO punt with a SMALL goal.

For example : I would like to win R 3,000 to paint the garage.

With this small goal I almost ALWAYS win.

2.) Stop IMMEDIATELY once you have achieved the goal.

This can sometimes be a disappointment as you might achieve your objective with the very first play. No matter. Take the money and spend it on the goal. Come back only when you have a new SMALL goal. DO NOT create goals so as to justify punting.

Technical point - I find it comfortable to punt with a bank 4x times the size of my goal.

eg If my goal is R500 then I like my bank to be R 2000 so as to allow me the space to sustain losses. R500 may sound small as a return on a bank of R2000 but a 25% return per day on capital is massive when annualised.

The beauty ( or curse ) of modern punting is the volume of opportunity. So there need be no hurry.

Garrick I punt the exact same way now. I always play with a goal in mind, twins pram was courtesy of 10% pick 6 win at the vaal in January. Dishwasher, kitchen upgrade, broken garage door and more recently 2 x highback twin feeding chairs, lol
