Betfair Hollywood Park

In L.A for the week. Suprised to see Hollywood Park now Betfair Hollywood Park. For a company that is persona non grata in the US, they still got an impact here.

strange how no one in South Africa has not spoken to them about Sponsorship for out struggling horseracing market. Sure the bookies would not like it but US OWNERS would surely love an increase in stakes.

They are on their way to SA I believe

why is that ? do they not contribute anything?

Betfair are taker-outers like the rest, they don't create any additional income. The money they "give" to racing is less than what they take out of racing.

As for their imminent arrival, same drivle we've heard for past 6 years and not one dot has changed in the gambling act. At the Gambling convention this year P, GC and the bookmakers were very anti so Betfair had better start dropping proper money down if they want to change (or buy) hearts and minds lol.

If we learnt anything from the advent of betting exchanges, it's that people still cant beat the game and the bookmakers in the Uk never died. The tote did though.

I believe Betfair can not operate a bet exchange in SA because our laws dont make provision for it. So if they come they will have to be a traditional bookie with no bet exchange. They will probably offer better odds but for me that is irrelevent as I enjoyed TRADING on Betfair. Also with the exchange you are gambling against other suckers whose money is easier to get hold of than the bookies.

I have no idea how their application for an SA licence is progressing if there is an application at all
