Unbelievable Deadheat in a Two Horserace !!!!
12 years 10 months ago
Lingfield Race 3 produced a deadheat result after the scratching of the only other runner. The protaganists were Frankie Dettori on Snowboarder who was the favourite at 5/10 and Martin Harley on Ayaar at 15/10.

This has been one of the best horsemanship to witness, two great jockeys. I enjoyed every bit of it. Frankie is one of the greatest jockeys in the world - he tried to steal this race by trying to draw clear by a few lengths, not realising that Martin knew his horse and how much he had in reserve. What a great finish - two horse race in an official race in the world. At the end of the day the result - dead heat, great for both horses.
In S.A. we had in the past witnessed a two horse match race, but not in an official race like we have seen above.
I must also mention that I had the opportunity of meeting with Frankie when he first came to S.A. ( great friendly guy ) and especially to Durban where he rode a first winner in Durban for Paul Lafferty Stable.Paul had to withdraw his nominated rider to give Frankie a ride - his mount was a 7/1 shot and it came home smoking. We had a field day because later on we had a Grade 3 winner ( Laff's first Gr3 ) - this double was 22/1. Can you imagine what a party it was - This was New year's eve.
