would a CONSOLATION PRIZE be in order ?
12 years 10 months ago
i'm just wandering if the powers that be ever considered "giving " a consolation prize of 50 G or even 100 G , to the runner up jock ?
what a competition it has been over the last few weeks............... just a thought.
pity about that broken leg Gav, you had it home & hosed - so it seemed.

If they are going to take away the Zim option then perhaps a 1st 2nd and 3rd prize would be an idea
Give everything but up!

Off the subject but how about a interprovincial competition between the jockeys??
2 jockeys from each province, maybe the racing public can choose the teams??
10 meetings over a 6 week programme.
Short intervals between races, 20 minutes... make it exciting... we need something new in this sport??
Cape (1 day and 1 twilight)
N-Cape (2 meets)
E-Cape (2 meets)
Gauteng (1 day and 1 night meet)
KZN (1 day and 1 night meet)
Could be exciting....??

Gold then Silver then Bronze medals!
Greg the inter-province won't generate any xcitemnt b'cos these guys are all over the country and frankly punters don't differentiate whether it's a jock from Sharks, Lions or Stormers territory.
Better we invite Zim, Mauritius and Ngong jocks for Test match races and see how far we run them into the ground.
Winning jock gets All-Africa Champ Jockey Trophy.

Greg, your angle has an IPL / 20-20 feel to it.
There are many similarities between cricket and racing. For one, they are both day long sporting events.
One of the main appeals of 20/20 which has brought the crowds back is that 20/20 has compressed a day long event into four hours, which appeals to modern living.
There must be logistical and economical (betting) reasons why races are so far apart, it would be interesting to know what these are??
I reckon the racing experience could be livened up if meetings were compressed and like you say maybe twilight meetings, jockey competitions and possibly a splash of live entertainment......
Marketed through social media which is not expensive.

Wonder if Racing Post would keep on referring to Silvester da Sousa as the jock who would have been British Champ had it not been for Hanagan?
