Greg Ennion was correct??????????
12 years 10 months ago
Trainer Greg Ennion's horse Master Plan, who did not make the July field this year, has since come out and won 2 more races, and the latest being the Champions Grade 1 over 1800m.I feel for a trainer that was ''gutted'' when his horse did not make the final July field and he speaks his mind.I thought i would comment as i took note of that interview, and followed this horses progress.Well done Greg i hope the authorities have taken note and that your chance arrives next year.

In hindsight he was correct.
But getting into the July you only get to use the evidence you have. At the time, I never put a cent on Master Plan because we all knew the horses that would have to get a run and after the Daily News it wasn't going to be him. His last win before the July was a B Div and he ran 6th of 9 in his last qualifying Gr1 race. When he ran 2nd in the Gr2 Hcp as a 25/1 shot between Hcp win and Daily News, he received weight from a bunch of group 1 winners who were also having first runs back. This race got him onto the list, but the poor Daily News knocked him off again. Pity.
The question for the jury is which horse would you taken out of the July to give over the spot? It does get easier afterwards.

very interesting point zoro.my take on kzn feature season is that evey cape trainer who brought up a string won a grade 1 race.this must be a first as i cant recall any other season that b crawford,j ramsden,j snaith,v marshall,g kotzen,d kannemeyer,m bass and g ennion all won a grade 1 race in same kzn season.
its very strange and i might be wrong but i dont think this has ever happened b4.

Personally I feel for Greg & to set the record staright I backed Master Plan on Saturday as could be seen in my selections. The only thing Greg should have done in my opinion was not run MP in the G1900 and have prepped the horse properly for the Daily News. The Daily News run came too soon after the G1900, hense the below par performance.
If he keeps this one on the right track he is a big runner in the MET.... and maybe the July next year.
