When it comes to marketing it's chalk and cheese...Gold Circle outstrips their Jhb opposition by miles!! Vodacom Durban July advertising brilliant this year. If any takeover it should be a reverse takeover..well done GC

SABC 3 will cover the Durban July live from 14H30. As per usual Michael Roberts and Garth Puller will be the main guest.

Oscar, the turn up on July Day has nothing to do with marketing, it's a traditional event, this year is the
116th running of this great race and even if this race day had any other sponsor it wouldn't have made any
difference, the locals and local punters would still flock to greyville.
Vodacom please don't read me wrongly, well done to you and your sponsorship,it's greatly appreciated and
required. However Oscar, I firmly believe that if the July handicap was run in any other province, the turn up
on the day wouldn't be the same has Durban.Durban has the punting public (Indian punting public) which
Gold Circle should take care of.
All the best to this great sporting event.

Gill Simpkins is a very hard working lady who loves her job,in fact the other night when i couldn`t sleep the emails from her were being sent out at 3am,when i replied to her she showed me her schedule for that day and i can tell you she was not clocking of until 11:00pm that night...

Yes, the publicity arm of Gold Circle does an outstanding job. The media releases penned by the likes of Dave Thiselton (whose late father tried, in vain to teach me science, at school), Andy Harrison and the veteran Richard McMillan, never stop arriving, courtesy of the wonderful Gill, who also looks after the needs of the racing press like a real Mother Hen. At the gallops, last Thursday morning, she organised an emergency consultation with the course doctor, Dr Chetty, for me, and a potentially problematic infection was quickly on the mend.

Cape Town have had something in the Sunday papers too - not bad, colourful and fun!. And a lovely shot of Ms Simpkins too! looking forward to watching.
@IN A RUSH - I beg to differ, marketing is sorely needed in SAF racing, will bring new punter/fan blood. It cannot survive on the incestuous bloodline of only those in the know as is.

I met Patrick Davis, now a senior executive at Phumulela, when he was General Manager at Plumpton Racecourse in England, and he was brilliant there.
He was extremely customer focused, and gave my group and myself a great time on our visit there.
