My colt Went The Day Well is a very lazy work horse, so my trainer Graham Motion put a narrow set of blinkers on him for his final gallop yesterday morning and he left his workmate for dead for the first time drawing away. The blinkers definitely helped him focus. This is very deep and contentious renewal, but now I feel as though my colt has a chance.

Thanks for input Barry and 33/1 must be worth an ew in a very open race 5/1 the field with Union Rags and Bodemeister topping the boards

Here are my initial thoughts, bearing in mind we still don't know what they draws are.....
Bodemeister bids to become the first horse in more than a century to win the Derby not having run as a 2 year old. Here in the US they don't hammer their 2 year olds to sprint. Apparently the foundation of having run at 2 is a big help both maturity and physicality wise.....Even though he has run huge beyer speed figures, he is not for me. Perhaps 3rd, 4th or 5th at best.
Union Rags didn't get a clean trip in the Florida Derby and there were excuses. The problem with him is he needs a perfect trip to win. He isn't going to get an easy route here I don't believe. This race isn't for sissies especially with a full field of 20. Still, he can close and the only concern for me with him is the 1 1/4 miles. Can run in the top 3.
Gemologist is unbeaten in 5 starts. He has more to find here, and a big pointer for me is that the stable jock, Johnnie Velasquez will not be riding him, even though I think Castellano gets many of their rides? Not for me.
Dullahan. I cannot help but think he may be better on turf/synthetic even though he ran a good race at Churchill last year in the Juvenile race. Also can't help but think he ran huge at the Blue Grass.....perhaps left his best performance there? Also Barry will know what he has as he had Howe Great in the blue grass (my early selection for the Derby but he seems to be a grass horse) - Barry was right indeed
Dullahan can run a place.
Creative Cause for me is a big runner. His only concern is that he makes life difficult for himself by running around. Will have to see if he wears blinkers on the day. He can close and ran a cracker in the BC juvenile last year, which seems to be a big pointer race. He is a big threat in my mind, being by Giant's Causeway.
Hansen. No chance, plain and simple. no chance. Will not stay.
Daddy Long Legs. Should have stayed in Ireland. Not for me.
Daddy Nose Best. He must have a chance. Won a good race last time and he has a world class money rider on his back. (Gomez). Barry once again should have a line through his little grey/bay horse Lucky chappy as DNB beat lucky chappy by a ball hair in San Francisco. He can definitely place with a good closing trip.
My pick is going to be Went the day Well, not because of Barry, not because they won it last year, but simply because I believe he will be the best horse over a 1 1/4 miles next Saturday. His last work yesterday with the blinkers was very good, he is a strong horse who can go handy or rate just off them. He has a champion jock on his back who knows him well and most importantly is that he has had a very solid prep for the race.....wish I had listened to you earlier Barry
This years race is all going to depend on the pace and who will be able to run a full 1 1/4 miles under the huge pressures of the "most exciting two minutes in sport".
Mix the mint juleps, don those derby hats, pick your horse and take your chance. I'm going to go back to the same casino I was in last year, sit in the same seat as I did last year and hope for the same results
All the best!
