thanx barry for the tip....i once was a 3 handicap in golf but i love horses more ,my first race was when i was only 3 years old on n pony and i was even a jockey from 9 years to 16 years in the Bush-racing. Fanie Chambers learned to be a jockey on our farm and we rode against each other, even Aart van der lingen ,i wrote Wallace Tolmay;s horses,Frits and Kobus Roux;s even Luchelle Krugers horses in races their in the dusty old Bush-veld where the winner of a race will receive a R1000 max ...
.and i want IN on the horses, my hobby for the last 17 years is to study every night of my life for 3-5 hours bloodlines of horses at different sales in RSA and analyse every raceday before and after even if i didnt have a small bet,I dont have millions like some of you who can buy any horse you want but I need a way to get IN and to be a new member in the ever decreasing population of racehorse owners...how can a noname like me get IN without worrying to lose a fortune?
Just wonder how many young guys like myself would love to get in the game but dont get the advise needed to make a success and attract others to follow?

Craig the biggest negatives i hear in racing are from owners, everytime i enquire about ownership i get told stay out its a mugs game and all the other stuff
Its like racings insiders dnt want new blood into the game they purport to love,i know some owners who tell me constantly to stay away yet they always buying a tail here and a nostril hair there
Maybe i dnt fit the profile of a owner(whatever that may be),or they scared i ll get lucky and find the next cheapie that will turn into a pierre jourdaan

S you are right. Some people with vested interests in racing spend their life running it down and shooting themselves in the foot. Makes it hard to get new people in to help boost the game that we(or most of us) love. Cannot work them out. There is NOTHING like leading in yoour 1st winner.

Great FUN owning horses.
However, renting a town house at R6,500 pm and stabling a 24 year old filly cost the same as stabling a horse at Turf or Randjesfontein.
Thus the monthly keep is the same, it only the Vet bills, and upfront costs that needs to be negotiated.
In both cases the wife will complain about the time and money spend.
The one ends in divorce and the other in bankruptcy?
Guess syndication would be more fun, less costly in both cases.
That you might end up having a auction to dissolve the syndicate, or a divorce to dissolve the marriage is the risk you run.
Owning horses is an experience that each punter should experience.
Specially the communication between owner and trainer.
When will my horse run ?
The horse looks exceptionally well within himself, we are looking for the right race!
How does my horse look?
O, its running saturday!
Why is my horse 6/10?
I don't know, must be the bookies?
But it was claimed 8 times from 20/1!
Can I banker it in the P6?
Why did we run last?
I don't know, we must ask the jockey!
Mr. Jockey why did we run last?
Don't worry, we will get a better price next time!
Lol
Have fun, buy in a syndicate!

Looks like you know more than most here and have done enough theory and practice so why don't you just dive in......select your horses on your own studies of bloodlines etc and go for it

Here's another take on the above..
Trainer: There is a filly that I want you to buy
Owner: How much?
Trainer: She is worth around 200k IMO
Owner: I will take 50% if you get her for that price
After the sale
Trainer: I got her for 100K do you still only want 50%
Owner: I will take her on my own
Just b4 her 1st start the trainer sends out another juvenile that wins by 4 lengths, informs the owner that his filly is working much better than the winner and runs the said horse 2 weeks later, she opens up 4/1 and starts 14/10 the owner averages 23/10 and recoups his purchase price and a bit on top...next start the filly runs in Durban and wins a grade 3 race at very restrictive odds so no bet but picks up 90k odd in stake money and a 50k bonus....it is not all doom and gloom owning horses( Noble Heir @ 60k another good example)....and the feeling of leading in your first winner...priceless...

You already have all the ground work so go check out what you like... get an opinion from a trainer or 2 then let some others bid and buy the horse/s and then approach them and ask if you can share.....if no one bids for your fancy go back to the vendor and make an offer...simple

Re: Re: First time owner.....NEED HELP FROM THE EXPERTS

i am a serious punter.....and i always maintained...u feed them and i'll back them.....because of all the negativity i heard about owning horses....and how costly vet bills ...stabling etc..etc..etc could cost .....but only recently ....i bought into the TEAM G...racing syndicate....i bought a 10% share in all 12 of the horses being offered in the syndicate...at a cost of about R15000 a month....its the best thing since sliced bread....no extra costs...no vet bills...get a report from marilyn cooke...about when the horses are running, the progress of each horse...a clip of its final prep gallop..e mailed to me...tickets for a box on the day the horse is running...the enjoyment of sharing in the box...the info that gavin gives us on horses in the stable...its amazing...and the pedigree of horses ...absolutely amazing....in fact tonight we have a runner..called grays champ...should win soon....definitely needs more ground...but i think this is the way of owning in the future....making small payments to the trainer for keeping the horses...and being able to pay in installments...another thing...all the costs are based for 2 years...that means...after 2 years the cost of the horses are paid for...and if the horse is still in training....we only pay stabling costs....and that can reduce my costs from R15000 a month to about R 3-4 THOUSAND rands a month if all are in training...still have to find out from TEAM G what happens if 1 of the 12 happens to be a slumdog millionare...and we get offered R5million...how do we resolve the issue...(we live in hope dont we)
