Completely agree - remember this horse breaking his maiden at Greyville. Loved the track.

Agree abt THE APACHE!!!guys although Jackson looks like a Superstar in the making REMEMBER greyville has a short Run-in and to me it looks as Jackson takes a while to get going!!!!

I'm sure that Jackson will run at Greyville before the July(Guineas, Daily news), so the course question will be answered. He has also won from the back and when being up with the pace so that should not pose a problem(depends on the draw I suppose). The trainer did say that he still has improvement in him, and the best is still to come. Lets hope he stays healthy and gives of his best. Will be my bet for the big one.

I only count three 4yr old males in the betting for the July, The Apache, Run for It and Black Wing.

Very thin looking bunch , these 4yr old males

Does anyone know what Jackson's official MR is after winning the Cape Derby, I can only find 102 before last race.

With Bruvura and PJ being off a 116 before their last start Jackson could have a big weight to carry as a 3 year old.

Finally! Someone who remembers that the July isn't a popularity contest but a handicap.

Jackson 116.

I will be on Slumdog here with Pomodoro very close depending on weight and draws.
But IF and only IF Igugu is not running.

English Garden if producing last years 3rd to Igugu will be a big runner as well

The Cape Derby is going to be a memorable race as we watch the KZN season kick in

Jackson went in a 102 and emerged a 116 (+14)
Tribal Dance went in 88, came out 102 (+14)
Solar Captain went in 88, came out 95 (+7)

Followed by:
Variety Club went in 118, came out 116 (-2)
Potala 102, 101 (-1)
Mushreq 103, 101 (-2)
Silver Haven 101, now 98 (-3)
Agarkar was 86, now 83 (-3)
Stone Pine 91, now 86 (-5)

From 6 runners out of the derby to date, the best place we've seen is a 4th in a MR78 hcp and a lowering of the MR -3.

You almost want to ask, "Which is it then...up..or down"
It seems we don't have ratings...we use current body temperatures in Fahrenheit or something. One thing is certain so far, you can't win backing horses off these ratings.

The question to perhspd ask then is if Jackson has improvement to come,.....how much improvement is to come? Perhaps he is actually a 122?
