I could not agree more Pirates..it is an absolute disgrace..the one guy I do like is Gareth Pepper..the quality of our presenters is not even worthy of a comment!

If Phum not doing well financially..they need to start the retrenchment programme..like all listed companies

Why do they ask the jocks about their future rides when we dnt get to hear it because of clashes with other venues ?

Would it not be better to interview jocks and trainers well before the 1st race and then somehow get it out to the public?

The man in the street who cannot afford dstv. He cannot study form as he has no internet. They sit at a tote some-where, or even attend the meeting. All they have is the daily newspaper and his weeks wages. They hear the presenters posting their fancies.....they shout them home ,,,,,and eish, sorry , wrong call

But, I think those punters make up about 1% of the tote turnover.....ja well.no fine

Wrong. They are the back bone of the industry. But who cares?

I think that the on-course presenters are paid by PHU to mislead the real 'punters'

Who attends race meetings and sit in totes day after day.....a game for kings & poep-holle...wie is die arme .....

Just not right

I'm not one to defend the establishment but in in truth when I started racing 35 years ago there was almost no info, +_ 25 years ago when i worked for Racing Digest it was hellish to get certain Jocks and Trainers to open up. Today you have so much more info in seconds - If you missed a payout years ago you had to wait for the newspaper to print results - I'm certain more can be done to disseminate info and implement new tools (scales, sec timing) but if you are still not making money with all the replays, canter downs(if you are on course), betting moves, internet sites, interviews, formgrids, correctly informed tipsters (Maree, Lips, etc) etc then perhaps punting is not for you. There is always room for improvement but when racing was in it's heyday most punters had less info than a blind man in a porn shop and they could not wait for the next big punt. There are many reasons for the decline in turnover but I think that a lack of info is not the main reason.

Lack of turnover is because of other forms of gambling and there are no new punters entering the game

And the fact that the public at large view racing as a corrupt activity

mr hawaai its not 25 or 35 years ago time has moved on... in every industry you must do everything in your power to firstly keep your customer base and then increase it as today punters have several betting options unlike the options we had 3 decades ago ,,,many first world racing countrys gives this info to its punters..im not asking for tips or graft as you boys in jhb call it but SIMPLY THE WELLBEING OF THE HORSES...punters can do the rest such as form and canter pasts...the wellbeing of the horse is of paramount importance before any form gets taken into account

pirates I hear what you say but i really think that racing as much as we love it is out of favour with society - I stand by the belief that addicts are made and not born - Punters are addicts but the daytripper that would perhaps have a flutter on a horse would not care a dot about the fitness, correct distance , form etc - They go on names, colours, feelings etc - Die hard horseplayers like yourself need this info surely as you are the backbone of an industry that is falling in on itself. I wonder if the volume of the monitors is audible in the Natal Tabs? In Gauteng you hear zip (not even a clear commentary)and the boys play on relentlessly - Vaal, HK , Singapore UK all in an hour and they know nothing - Have a look and see the thread on USA racing - Punters punting on horses they know Zip about - that's not cricket it's addiction.

this view by the general public is not helped by the fact that even people "in" racing like many that post on this forum are the first to say things are fixed etc etc when they back a loser!
