Racecard sites that show classs / grade of races
13 years 3 months ago
Hello from the UK.
I've been following SA racing more and more.
Question concerning racecards:
- On the racecards I have found for SA racing, they list the type of race
BUT
they don't list the CLASS of the race.
Are there any on-line cards that are available that do so?
Thank you in advance.

I noticed the Match rating.
Is there a "guideline" to which match rating falls into which Class?
The reason behind this is I tend to put lines through certain classes of racing in the UK. (i.e. will play class 5 or 6 in the UK but will usually play EW, rarely for the win).
Finding reading form and comparison of runners easier. I think this is coming down to the number of tracks.

Shapeshifter,I have raced here for 40 years and can't get an answer to the same question. The Computaform reflects the class of races(top right hand corner),but it would appear to be unofficial..........officialdom didn't know what I was talking about!
I started a thread here on the same subject many moons ago,but few seemed to be concerned.
Being from the UK,I suspect I know why you would want to know...........the same reason I did.
Some of the stats relating to horses moving between classes,in the UK, are very significant??
BTW,those stats do tend to follow suite here, even using the "unofficial" class distinctions.

Thanks for that. A bit of a chuckle since I found a write up explaining that there are six classes but, like you, they don't seem to be listed.
It's amazing since so much of the structure seems to mirror the UK.
Perhaps it will be faster to create my "own classes" once I figure out the high and low and will divide the ladder up accordingly (will start with purse then ratings then....so much for sleep!)
But find that without making the efforts, I might as well throw my own ratings out the window and toss darts at the card.
Thanks for shedding some light. It will make for some interesting form reading as I venture into SA racing.

Shapesifter,I decide that I would also check our "classing" by using the BHA definitions but I battled to make a fit, so if you make headway,I would be interested in any conclusions you make, thanks

Some time two heads are better than one!
As well, if anyone else has a view on this, it would be appreciated.

I'm finding this incredible.
I just sat down to review some results on tabonline.co.za
The results don't show any official going anywhere
My kingdom for a site that shows:
Class
Going
Times (for the results)

Cheers, Keniza
2 out of 3 are there but now have times and going that can easily be screen-scraped.
Class still eluding me. Prize money seems to be an indicator (as someone mentioned) so will take a while but will build something that looks like 'class'.

Re: Re: Racecard sites that show classs / grade of races

Probably showing my ignorance here, but I can't figure out the problem (must be because I never had to deal with the British definitions) - a horse has a MR and competes (in handicaps) against horses with their own MR's (and gives or receives weight depending on the 'class' of the race and the MR's of the other horses in the race) - so a MR 80 handicap in general is of a higher 'class' than a MR 70 handicap.
I agree that a MR 80 handicap (10 runners) where 8 horses have MR's between 75 and 80 and the other 2 have MR's of between 70 and 75, are of a higher 'class' than a MR 80 handicap where 2 horses have MR's between 75 and 80 and the other 8 have MR's of between 70 and 75 - but why is this important?
