you cant always get what you want....

BTW i predict that teams like Man U and others that "gamble" on future earnings could ALSO be in this predicament soon.

Anybody could have bought Man U , the finance was self funding and the deal is not very good. If they have a delicate finacial situation imagine the likes of wolves/b city/spurs etc etc etc

Interesting comments from Graeme Souness saying Rangers will reinvent themselves as something else? Rangers 2012 or FC Rangers or something similar.
I see a lot of comments that they will enter the English leagues under their new guise and work their way up from the bottom leagues? A very interesting situation developing...sad for Scottish football though!

These okes get what they deserve in my opinion. Pay ridiculous wages way above their means in the hope that they will earn in future via sponsorship, crowd attendances, prize money due to winning championships whatever. Lousy business model. Pay a basic wage with structured incentives based on results, income etcetera....

Perhaps a blessing in disguise. It might be nice to see the top Scottish clubs play in the English leagues.

RANGERS newco won’t be allowed to run away from the sins of its predecessor it emerged last night.
While all the old club’s debts, including tax liabilities, will be wiped out sources insist Charles Green’s newco will be expected to pay for past crimes.
“They can’t expect a free pass straight into the top flight,” one source insisted.
“A newco will have to shoulder the responsibility and possibly even the punishments of the old company if they want the licences to play.”
Yet outside, in the real world, a newco would have a clean slate but in Scottish football’s parallel universe corporate and civil laws don’t always apply.
And when they do it’s only to suit the authorities’ agendas.
So it’s likely Green and his born-again club will be held to account if the probe into the use of Employee Benefit Trusts find Rangers breached football’s laws.
A verdict on the EBT case between HMRC and Rangers is still awaited but, even if it is in favour of the tax man, it will not affect the new Rangers. Any debt will not fall on them.
But while the Revenue are willing to go without any payback on their long-running battle with Rangers it is unlikely the SPL and SFA will do the same.
Our sources claim SPL clubs would want the newco to accept responsibility if it’s found that side letters, which were additional to contracts given to players with EBTs, were actually secondary contracts.
If that is the outcome a number of clubs would then push for sanctions to be attached to the licence Rangers newco would need to enter the top flight.
Green might find that unacceptable given his newco would be starting from scratch and accepting a minimum wait of three years before they could play in Europe. Clubs must be registered with their domestic associations for at least three years before they can compete in either the Champions League or the Europa League.
The new owner may decide he should start at the bottom by applying to the Third Division but he would still need the approval of the SFA who have their own beef with Rangers.
The governing body would back the stance of the SPL so even access to the lowest league could come with penalties.
Last night SPL sources were also adamant that a Rangers newco must accept any sanctions which might be attached to the right to play in the top flight and Green would have to be at his most persuasive if he is to talk them round.
The newco also poses a problem for the SFA who had their 12-month signing ban on Rangers thrown back in their faces by the Court of Session.
The SFA and Rangers are still in dispute over the sanctions imposed after the club were found guilty of disrepute charges and FIFA are now monitoring the situation because the Ibrox club went to court.
Lord Glennie said the judicial panel was wrong to impose the signing ban and the SFA are having to think again. But Rangers fans can be sure any membership to the SFA won’t be handed over without another penalty stapled to it.
So one way or another Rangers, even as a newco, will still have to face the music.
Give everything but up!
