Craig it is a total balls up, intially when the AHS outbreak was reported late last year, a 3 week quarantine was imposed and any highveldt horse would have to stay over at Beaufort West for the 21 period. Grand how was one supposed to get down early by taking a horse out of work for that period.

Ok that would make it hard. Dennis went from here in October I think and so he was lucky. Very hard for Mike to do it the way he has to now. Am a big Igugu fan and tipped it for the Vodacom July but might have to look elsewhere. Even Mike will find it hard to win this.

excuse my ignorance but is it not possible to rather fly the horses into cape town or is their red tape surrounding this alternative as well?

Pirates, I would think that the same red tape applies. I dont think the method of trasport is the problem rather the area it came from.

I hope that the TT crew take the intiative to specialy interview the parties concerned and get info on how horses traveled and their
well being before the commencement of the meeting. FFS there will be enough TT staff at Met on the day and we want the prerace info before the post mortums.

would be interesting to know if igugu is following the same procedure as she did last year when raiding the cape for the fillies guineas as she showed no ill efects from the trip

Igugu travelled very well down to Cape Town for the J&B Met, arriving at the Kenilworth Quarantine Station on Wednesday after an 18 hour journey.

Journalist Liesl King took a group of Australian media personnel to see her and reported that she looked in impressive condition and had a peaceful demeanour.

However, Mike de Kock is still concerned about her having to stay under vector protection.

Under these conditions horses have to be locked up from two hours before dusk until two hours after dawn and can only be seen through a window.

The temperature in the lock up environment is kept relatively constant compared to the changes that are occurring outside and this apparently caused the de Kock-trained Silver Flyer to begin sweating profusely when he came outside on the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate raceday.

He said that Igugu is not the most laid back horse around, so was concerned that she would also be affected in the same way.

Besides that he said that she had finished her preparation and would just be kept ticking over until the big race.
