two will forever stand out for me firstly teds ambition with the legend michael roberts aboard coming back to beat caboteur in the durban merchants at greyville under the late grant kotzen and the 2nd also at greyville in the sa 2000 when potomac and model man fought out a great duel over the last 600 metres and felix getting potomac up to deny model man and basil marcus

There are plenty, but one absolute classic that's now largely forgotten was Potomac beating Model Man in the 1986 Daily News 2000 after a ding dong finish down the Greyville straight. Felix Coetzee vs. Basil Marcus - that was a race that got the crowd on its feet.X(

Oops, Pirates beat me to it. I knew he hadn't forgotten!:D

@ sham, the best was when he beat Crisp (IMO the best run ever by a horse that run 2nd) the Australian chaser gave Red Rum chunks of weight and had a faultless jumping display and was just out on his feet in the run in where Red Rum flew past.

@pirates, did model man not also have a great race against main man?

yes clairwood 1800 which sadly is now raced at greyville on gold cup day....3rd in the race was the unbeaten bush telegraph coming off his july win....jeff llioyd gave main man a great ride and yet again marcus was denied on model man...in fact model man had run 2nd in the july to bush telegraph also with marcus up..jeez lips is it over 25 years ago that race?

Yes, almost 26 years, Pirates! (:P)

That race that Main Man won at Clairwood beating Model Man and Bush Telegraph was possibly the best tactical race I have ever seen Jeff Lloyd ride. The other two were so busy keeping an eye on each other that he went for home very early on Main Man, who carried a very light weight and who basically pinched the race with that move, There were so many people on course that day that it took me almost half an hour to drive out of the car park onto the freeway.

Ah, those were the days!
