With all due respect to you as a horseman, but I believe you totally wrong. The difference is that UK jockeys go to SA for a sunny holiday and SA jockeys come to the UK to try and prove themselves.

guys with all due respect to anton and ur top 5jocks it is insane to even mention sa top 5 jocks in the same breath as soumillon, dettori,r moore,k fallon,j murtagh,c lemairre,w buick,t queally m barzelona,p hanagan,j fanning,r hills s pasquier etc etc.make no mistake here and there our top guys can ride a memorible race, but in all honesty they simply not good enough to compete with names iv mentioned.marcus rode in shergar cup and i felt embarrassed the way he rode a horse in a distance race,up and down like a yo yo fading fast that even the commentator made mention of the poor ride.he might appear top class wen he wins on all the favs here in sa but he was a failure in hong kong.imo striker a much better rider and even honest karl better than him.u guys need to watch more quality uk racing and u will realise how far behind our top horses and jockeys actually are.dont be fooled by dubai because the horses competing there are not the top calibre british horses.

Worked with 9 of the above mentioned jockeys mentioned by winzip when I was there, including 6 of them work riding with my girlfriend and I gave instructions from William to them in work and races, gave them leg ups onto the horse, watched them ride and then listened to what they had to say afterwards and then have to read this shit written above by some people. You can have your opinion but let it have some truth to go with it. winzip you are judging Anton on 1 ride which I did not see but anyway that is a bit unfair to do that without finding out if there was maybe something wrong afterwards. How many jockeys would have won on J peg? Not even a handful. Why dont you judge Anton on that ride? Probably because it does not suit what you wrote above!

Who does MDK use in Dubai and other Overseas races?
All Jocks mess up,Soumillion is a natural on a horse but he has messed up in some big races.
Hanagan has a good racing brain and you get 100% effort from him.
Fallon on form is hard to beat, always a question mark on him for me regarding trying.
Hills extremely lucky to have his retainer, not in my top 20 in UK.

that might be true greg, but strydom is by far the most talented rider in sa.mr eudey m no expert and u are, so im not going to even try to converse with u abt jockey ability.u are a trainer and horses is your job so i will expect you to know wat u talking abt so i will shut up and bow to ur superior knowledge.just so u know i do think anton is a good rider, but imo there are far better riders than him in the world.i apolagise to all anton fans for saying he isnt world class.

@ Craig
As far as personality and the ability to speak to owners trainers SA jockeys are world leaders, that is thanks to an excellent school that makes them by in large articulate and appear proffesional. It also fills a quato each year and chucks out kak jockeys into the racing world BUT at least they speak well.
I also apologise to you as clearly "william" as you call him decided to fly out to SA to spend time with you learning and experiencing training methods your way (the SAFFA) way. I am also led to believe that Sir Henry Cecil has many times flown down south to learn and gain experienence.
There is nothing wrong with loyalty and patriotism BUT seriously the ONLY people that think SA racing is important are South Africans.....I am not talking about being better i am talking about importance. I am talking about how tough it is to make it in the UK as a jockey or a trainer OR even a horse. The UK and Irish horse are stallions ALL over the world, the UK jockeys could also "make it anywhere" certainly some of them and not all of them ( sa as SA i concur)
Anysane person that tells me that Richard Hughes could not be champion anywhere in the world is a lunatic BUT the prestige associated with being champion here couple by what that jockey would have had to do to be champion sets him aside from Anton/Dougie et al.
This is a tough school why dont you ask Muis.

Easy if I remember correctly UK is more of an Island than we are. We are not producing top jockeys at the moment as the academy is more of a school than Jockeys academy but the Anton's Anthony's Dougie's, Jeff's etc will hold their own anywhere in the world. Reading what you say about your jockeys and trainers you are even more one eyed than me and that is hard. Even William and Sir Mark Prescott learn something every day and think Mike D K, Mike Bass, Syd Laird's of South Africa just to name a few of many would hold their own in England if they got the same horses without a doubt. For interest sake I will ask Muis how he thinks our jockeys would do over there if they were prepared to go all over to win the championship.

"For interest sake I will ask Muis how he thinks our jockeys would do over there if they were prepared to go all over to win the championship"
now we making progress, i think he will say that it will take even Anton a long time (it took muis years) and that it will be along slog BUT if they are comitted it can be done. BUT what ill say is that if you swapped directly Anton Marcus with Paul Hanagan From today onwards for exactly 10 months and they rode ride for ride exactly what the other would have ridden, the Hanagan WILL be SA champion and Marcus will be 3rd in the UK. There is NO way it can be as easy to learn the intricacies of the 60 brithish racecourse as there is to the 8 odd Anton rides at.
Tell me the truth now please, how many winning rides a year does Anton have to earn his money? you know graft really hard on a 9 year old 50 rated plater in a selling race in the rain at Chepstow?
How many of Antons 234 winners last year were pushing buttons?
Hanagan grafts for his winners, its gotta be tougher here and therefore the credence associated with being champion jockey on the islands holds up anywhere in the world.
