A lot of trainers go through these "learning curves" as horses do need medication for various ailments.... but knowing when to actually race them clean is sometimes hard to grasp for the guys that do not know what is in the medication and have not bothered to read up on med's nor the banned racing substances register tabled by the NRA....if a horse is sick then medicate and if a horse is medicated it is still a sick horse so do not rush to run it

I have seen some incredible "wonder streaks" by certain stables in my time, where absolutely formless horses improve beyond all recognition for one run, all heavily claimed - and when the streak is over, the horses go back to finishing distance behind till the end of their careers. Makes you wonder what goes on that.
I'm not talking about horses who's real ability at a particular level has been shrewdly hidden by a trainer eg. by running in stronger company or wrong distances - finding such lurkers is what I love about the game - careful study means you can also profit.
All I want is to be able took at the form after the running of a race, and to be able to make a case for the winner, even if I overlooked it before the race.

Titch - talking about mind boggling improvement - without any apparent reason, of several very poorly performing horses from a yard in a relatively short period time - followed by an equally rapid return to the previous shocking form.

@ Fazzx - " All I want is to be able to look at the form after the running of a race, and to be able to make a case for the winner, even if i overlooked it before the race."
Well said, now only if we are living in a perfect world! However what u are looking for obviously is Consistency and more consistency. Unfortunately with the merit rating system, some horses are punished too early and to bring the rating down, u see all kinds of disastrous runs before the ratings start to tumble.
