Calculating odds question

13 years 5 months ago
#186802
Hi

Instead of a double, how would I calculate the odds of one of two linked events happening?

So if there were two 3/1 shots, would are the odds that at least one of the two arrives?

15/10.....if in isolation each is a 3/1 shot you would get 15/10 each, if you dutched them!

two 3/1 shots=evens
25%+25%=50%
you spend R2 - get back R4 if one wins = evens

You stake R1000.....to cover "either one" you will split to 2 bets R1500/500 each.....1 wins return is the R1500 to the R500,but R500 is lost so your profit is R1500 and your total stake was R1000.
I am starting again......lol it is in effect a dutching situation with level stakes...... find a dutching calculator to check the final result

But surely if you divide a stake by 2 ,at the same odds, you divide the odds by 2.

I stick with 15/10.....ie.3/1 divided by 2........WRONG
OK done it on a dutching calculator .......the aggregate final odds are "evens"

yes Rob but you loose that R500 staked therefore you only win R1000

Your stake is R1000 your return if 1 wins is R1500/500 = R2000
