Betting World application to ECGBB

In case anyone missed it as it the advertisement was placed in the Daily Sun,
a newspaper that nobody I know reads or has ever bought, attached is the notice
from the Provincial Gazette.

It is for Shakori (Pty) Ltd, who previously traded as Betting World in Port Elizabeth.
They were located at Brooks Hill Pavilion in Summerstrand, but when the building
was sold they relocated to 15 Newton Street, Port Elizabeth, where they were caught
by the ECGBB for operating without a licence and were subsequently closed.

If anyone wants to make a submission to the Eastern Cape Gambling & Betting Board,
they only have until Thursday 15th December to do so. Any submissions should be
emailed to compliance@ecgbb.co.za or faxed to 043-748-2218.

This is a reply I got from TAB Corp Australia, as I contacted then to enquire about
David Attenborough as an applicant for a bookmaking licence in the Eastern Cape.
Our old friend David is currently Managing Director of Wagering at TabCorp Australia.

Does anyone know who Mark Roberston is?

The Eastern Cape Betting Act does not allow for undisclosed shareholders who hold
more than 5% of shares in a company making an application.

Hi Greg
Thanks for the email.
The appearance of David Attenborough’s name on this application must be an error.
The application for amendment of bookmaker licence conditions is for Shakori Pty Ltd.
David is not a current director of Shakori, the application is not made in his personal capacity and it does not relate to Tabcorp Holdings Limited.
We have sought that this be rectified.

What are the chances of it not being the same David Robert Henry A...................Interesting developments to follow ,I would guess.
Could he really be risking his A$1.2M ,per annum, job?

Hi Rob,

Definitely the same David Attenborough. I have attached the original 2007
application to the ECGBB for the Betting World premises at Brooks Hill in
Port Elizabeth, which shows the same names. At this time David was with
Phumelela, and this was his application. I went into this Betting World outlet
a few times, and it was a good setup with fantastic views over Algoa Bay.

Interesting when the directors and shareholders are FICA'd ...that will surely cause the shyte to hit the fan,in more ways than one!
I have to guess, bearing in mind the chosen publication(Daily Sun) that it was hoped this issue would stay below the radar,in SA and Aus.
Greg, have you managed to establish who Mark Robertson is?

I went to inspect the application at the Municipal Manager's office
this morning, but it is not there. With only 3 days left to make any
submission, there is no way to tell who the beneficial owners are,
or who actually submitted this application.

I managed to find the info on Mark Robertson on Linkedin: Seems he left
Betting World in September 2008, and is currently based in Derby, United
Kingdom. So, like David Attenborough, it is most unlikely that he is applying
for a bookmaker licence in the Eastern Cape.

Thanks to everyone for the help and input, it was most useful. My submission
has now gone off to the Eastern Cape Gambling & Betting Board to ensure
that I make the 30 day deadline.

Mark Robertson's Experience
Proprietor Waky Services - Shell Franchise Retailer
March 2011 – Present (10 months) Derby, United Kingdom

Operations Manager Betting World
March 2005 – September 2008 (3 years 7 months)

Financial Director World of Sport Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Sports industry
October 2001 – February 2005 (3 years 5 months)

Licensed Independent Fixed Odds Operator Amanzimtoti Tattersalls
August 1994 – September 2001 (7 years 2 months) Amanzimtoti

Financial Accountant - Engen Refinery Engen Partnership; 10,001+ employees; Oil & Energy industry
August 1989 – August 1994 (5 years 1 month) Durban Area, South Africa
