Bling Your Pink at Saturday’s R2m Summer Cup
Gauteng’s socialites will all converge on the Turffontein racecourse for the Sansui Summer Cup, where fashion, racing and celebrities will strut their stuff on Saturday.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng’s socialites will all converge on the Turffontein racecourse for the Sansui Summer Cup, where fashion, racing and celebrities will strut their stuff on Saturday.
The Summer Cup is almost as old as the city of Johannesburg itself and to host the biggest and best horse racing event at Turffontein will be the racing highlight of the year.
The R2 million race has attracted 20 of the best horses to challenge for the title of top horse, jockey and trainer all in one race.
The theme for the day of fashion, music and fanfare is Bling Your Pink.
That means everyone at the racecourse must have a dash of pink in their attire.
Even the men can have a hat band in pink to break the black of the hat.
Women will have no problem finding a reason to wear a colour so often associated with that gender.
The punters, the most important of the racegoers, will also have something to cheer about as in the main race, where there are 20 horses racing, the betting has changed to allow the first six horses across the line to be paid out.
Should some horses be scratched, leaving only 16 or less at the start, then the payout will revert to the first four placings.
Champion trainer Mike de Kock has had six winners in this race in the past 12 years, making him the best trainer around.
This year he has four horses in the main race and one can expect to find at least one in the top six.
Racing starts at 12.30pm.
