They give the weights in the Cape also find it a useful tool to hear if a horse was gained or lost since it's last run

don't waste your time mate I've tried in vain for years to have this info published but "THEY" want it kept secret (only "they" know why)

I dont think that anyone wants to keep the weights secret. To me it is a waste of time if they do not do it the day before so that people know the weight before doing their exotics. On race day many horses only get to the course after the exotics have started. If done properly it can help the punters but if not it just causes confusion. Another gripe was that the weights we had taken at home were sometimes way out with what the course scales showed and some horses did not like walking onto the scales and had to be chased or forced on which is not right when racing in an hour or so.

Thanks Craig, its great to get your guys input on matters like this....I will no longer enquire why no horse weight based on your positive reply. Besides I think maybe better value then knowing the MR and WFA handicapping anyway.(tu)

No problem. Am happy to give my opinion on most if not all subjects that you would like to ask about.

but knowing the Horse's weight would be an advantage!certain horses are at their peak when they weigh in at a certain weight.shows if they are fit or not.ESPECIALLY after a rest....bt its cool if they cant publish that or takes to much effort

We have a scale at Summerveld so it would be easy for us and the stipes are there on Mondays and Thursdays so they could monitor it or have someone do it. Not sure if Clairwoods old one works or if Ashburton has one. What about raiders from Jhb or guys on farms where they dont have scales?

There's no commitment in this business. The bottom line is that information is what separates horse racing from slot machines.
Somehow they can have a gps device on a horse in Turkey which shows real time position and therefore sectional timing, but here we can't even have enough dedication to weigh a horse after the novelty has worn off. I don't think its a money problem, there is just no determination at the top because the kippies at the bottom would carry on doing it indefinitely for his few bucks a meeting.
One comes to learn that all efforts are a reflection of the leaders/owners of an enterprise. It just makes you despair.

Jack if you have a good idea as to how it can be done with the diversity of places we train from here in Kwazulu Natal let me know and I will take it to the top. I train for the vice chairman and he is very open to how we can help the punters. Only thing it must include every horse not just some of them and in time for the exotics punters. It would be easy if all the horses were trained in1 place or on course the day before they race or something like that. Any ideas welcomed.
