Dear
I refer to your email below and make highlight the following:
On the runs of Dream Big on 29 August and then on 31 August – On 29 August Dream Big participated in the 5th race over 2200m a distance which is 600m more than it has ever run. Further to this the horse was examined post-race and was coughing. On 31 August Dream Big run in race 7 over 1800m and won. The Stipendiary Board questioned Mr Miller on this geldings performance and Mr Miller stated that he felt that the 2200m was too far. Mr Miller believes that 1800m may be the preferred distance. The Stipendiary Board has noted this explanation and will monitor this horses performance.
I have double checked with the CE Mr Rob de Kock, and he has advised that the rules on inconsistent running has always been in effect. On several occasions in recent times trainers have been called into the Stipendiary Board room and where there has been inconsistencies have been reminded of the rules relating to inconsistent running.
I assure you that Stipes monitor this all the time. Prior to all race meetings our Stipes look at the form of all participants, have discussions on the various runs and following a race query performances that are inconsistent.
Regards

There is a basic rule of managemnt or regulation......."If you can't measure it ,you can't manage/regulate it".
Funny ,but referring to the DREAM BIG case confirms my concerns in the past.......it has to be over 20 lengths before its inconsistent in the eyes of the NHA.
Do they work to a standard or definition of what constitutes inconsistent.(.....just what I thought ......WHAT?????)
Until the players, including trainers, agree and define the parameters of "inconsistent" the rule is pointless!
