UK racing

Because I race all local meetings,I watch a lot of UK racing, and have been trying to find patterns that may make punting there worthwhile.
Being a "handicap" fan ,I pay particular interest to "official Ratings" and I am amazed at how meaningless they are ,at many levels.
Absolutely no pointer at claiming and seller level, but class of horse makes that understandable but these festival meetings with all the listed and group races, there appears to be no improvement(check the results this week or in fact this year) and I wonder how the average punter uses form or handicapping......seems to be like equine roulette.
How do punters without the benefit of "stable info" even start to make their selections?
I assume there must be some "rating" sites that have reasonable results, cos otherwise I am sure that
,if I was forced to punt there, I would convert to sports betting entirely.
Would be interested in comments from regular (and hopefully successful) punters on UK racing,as I don't pretend to have any knowledge of that racing.....it is just my perception.

Rob I'm no expert and my ''guide to finding'' is unorthodox sometimes, but I have seen horses dropping in class from there previous race run much improved races next time out, at huge odds. Strangely enough this happens more often on the all weather tracks than the turf... Just an observation, definitely not a perfect science.
Today at Hamilton we have just seen this, Edgware Road down from a grade 5 to grade 4 ...

Greg, that is interesting because those examples would suggest they are often well handicapped ,and that makes sense.....other than the clearest test of handicapping should theoretically be in "condition" races.
It should be unusual to find your best betting propositions in Handicap races,as a generalisation..........but
You do seem to do better than most with your UK selections so you get no argument from me!!

Race 5 - Southwell
GOLDEN CREEK, both wins over the C&D, comes down from class 4 to class 5 (Won in this class before)... Jockey has won on him, needs to be handy and strongly ridden, I think he can give the Prescott favourite a go tonite.

No Greg,I haven't got to punting UK other than the odd interest or if local racing is abandoned and I get really bored.....but weeny stakes only.
Theoretically though, wherever racing is reasonably sophisticated, handicapping is the same ,and backing well handicapped horses should show a positive return ,over time.................UK just doesn't seem to support that theory.

Ja,it confirmed your strategy, but the question was whether he would suddenly take to the all-weather.
Like here, their horses seem to either love it or hate it,particularly Southwell fibresand.
I can certainly see your thinking on Golden Creek.

Greg,no racing is mate...we know that, but great if you can find a few odds in your favour.
If you find something that works for you, thats damn good.
On that score, have you compared the returns on win vs place betting on those selections of yours?
