Ladbrokes now licensed in South Africa. I think they opened today. I heard from a very good source that they have a 1 million pound advertising budget for the first year !
I think that although the market is very saturated, Ladbrokes using the same software as the UK site will be able to offer massive in running sports betting opportunities. Most of the local mob use Turfsport software which to be fair is about 15 years behind what Ladbrokes offer.
I seriously doubt Ladbrokes will ever come close to what they think they might make out of South Africa but I reckon they will market the product better that any other locals.

They even purchased a filly and named her Ladbrokes Lass. Not sure who trains her.

GOLD CIRCLE-PHUMELELA MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: Ladbrokes SA to sponsor Under Starter’s Orders
DATE: Thursday 11 August 2011
RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming And Leisure Limited
THE popular Tellytrack programme Under Starter’s Orders is to be sponsored by Ladbrokes SA, an arm of the British-based gambling company, from this Saturday.
Under Starter’s Orders, South African horseracing’s most popular show, gives a full preview of the day’s racing every Saturday and Sunday, with the latest news from trainers, jockeys and a panel of experts.
In announcing the sponsorship, which was negotiated by Phumelela Gold’s sales executive Clyde Basel, Ladbrokes SA’s marketing manager Anli Kotze said: “It's all systems go for Ladbrokes SA. There were a few technical issues that we had to overcome but we are ready for business.
“It is so exciting to be part of `Under Starters Orders’ and we hope to satisfy sports’ viewers with some great television.”
Basel commented: “We have been in talks with Ladbrokes SA for some time now and eventually have an agreement that suits all parties.
“They realise the power of advertising and have secured the naming rights to such a popular show as Under Starter’s Orders. We wish them well with their fixed-odds business in what is already a competitive market and Phumelela Gaming & Leisure Ltd is happy we have reached an agreement that Ladbrokes SA will not offer the open bet (tote bets taken by fixed-odds operators and not bet on the tote).”

But Ladbrokes is a direct competitor of Phumelela. This was the excuse used to discontinue distributing Sporting Post in tote outlets.

would be interested if they offer the same conditions that they offer their uk punters..
GTD prices every race,First past the post and official result every race..
Just had a look at their site and they have not priced up todays card yet,so maybe they dont have any traders sorted or are not in full swing yet..
Pretty annoyed because i have been stealing prices from them for years lol

On SA racing pretty poor i always check their prices then bet on Sportingbet or Hollywood.. but this should change when they employ traders?
On Uk racing their early prices hold up and the GTD prices are a massive advantage but like all uk firms they dont like Arbers
