I can add on this thread when I watched Dettori ride one of the best finishes of his career on Rewilding to get up and beat So You Think, within an hour?? he had a massive ban for whip abuse and instead of "ride of the month" he was given a heavy "slap"

How lerena gets targeted and not delpech is just remarkable.

True Abacus - unfair of me not to include Faydherbe, Felix Coetzee and even Yeni and maybe Khumalo. Still we are under stocked..

I disagree. Igugu was at least 2-3 lengths ahead of BCL when he broke down.

Anthony had absolutely nothing to do with BCL breaking down. The horse was 2.65lengths behind at the line and just put his foot down in a slight divot or something like that as he stared to pull up.. At that speed it does not take much. You can see it happen in the television replay.

How can Yeni and Khumalo be in the same sentence as Marcuss, Delpech, Faydherbe and Coetzee :S

@Homer:
'I just think that some of our so called top jocs - not only Gavin, are very average. In big races their true ability is shown and I am sorry to say we have only 2 world class jocs! They are currently fighting out the championship!'
I think that most of these 'average' jockeys are only there to ensure that betting stables have their money on to pull off coups and ensure they keep their mouths shut!
Does anyone (forget the NHA!) have an idea of the ratio between 'manipulated' coups and genuine races run in South Africa? Compared with overseas racing?
Whilst there are many transparent trainers, there are those 'murky' characters who 'specialize' in coups who will never ever offer comments about their horse's chances, or, mislead us "not stable money!', etc.
Of course, many of them have become unstuck. At the same time, many a bright-eyed owner has not only been pissed off, but also ended up with financial disaster. Herein, we had seveal instances where a trainer or two have been warned off (inconsistency, drugs, etc) .......not enough!
To me, the fact that (in PE ysterday), Delpech could go there and notch up 4 winners for Gavin Smith is disconcerting (though swelled my coffers!).
When last did Gavin Smith's stable jockey in Warren Kennedy ever have 4 (even 3) winners at a meeting?
How often his less fancied horses have won & the fancied one in the bush?
How often, when Greef is favourite, Smith wins, or, vice versa?
I now see horseracing as a conspiracy, where one has to watch the shady players and anticipate their moves!
'Integrity' my foot!

I agree with your comments, if you can anticipate these shady (jocks, trainers ) moves then you might figure out when they don't want to win a race thus you don't have to waste your money punting their horse.
IMO all our stipes should be retrained because they are incompetent. There are jocks that don't ride their mounts right to the finish line, yet the stipes don't suspend these jocks. If we compare the UK or Mauritius racing with SA you should be able to see the difference.
IMO the bookies control or influence most of our top jocks.

racing will have to pull up its socks in all aspects - operational, policing, marketing and integrity. In its bankrupt situation it does not deserve to survive.
