Punting Methods
14 years 1 week ago
To all the serious punters out there , some guidance is needed .
I am trying to understand how punters ensure that they are making a profit each day . Different punters have different methods I believe . What works for you .
1. Do you have a venue choice that you focus on ?
2. Do you punt together with buddies ?
3. What type of bet types do you prefer ?
4. How much do you really invest in a race meeting ?
5. Do you have a strategy ?

For starters I always look for value in any race . I usually take wins but regret when my outsider runs in places at good odds . I have a rule that my bets for the day must never go more then a R1000.00 . For the last month I have had about 10 seconds which did my pool of R8000.00 no good.
When looking at form I usually look at previous race dates , For ex if a horse is being raced too often .
I look at course and times most of the times as well as jockey bookings .

Let me comment about this tonight. Difficult to be on the forum and keeping an eye on the TV and 3 other betting sites whilst there is racing on.
Racing is a serious business for me ( similiar to the stock Exchange)

Punter the success i have reached this passed couple of weeks has been to following horses that have run and got beat but most important the study of form( a thing i never done before). form study helps alot with the odd whisper now and then. Also follow a jock that riding well.

Punter...it's tough to make a profit every day...
I punt to win like everyone else but I concentrate on Cape racing although I'll punt on the other centres as well however mostly on weekends and then only on the PA and Jackpots.
The Jackpot is my favourite bet...it is cheaper than the Pick 6 and I find it easier to get a good return on it. I don't back with buddies and I usually bet before getting to the tote...thereafter I will back on the internet. If I think a horse is ready to run a good race, I will back it irrespective of what price it is at. I love punting horses at longer odds for places...it often is all about the conditions i.e. Aggravacious is a solid winter performer still stuck in the maidens but I got a great return of R11-00 for a place last week (was waiting for this one to run in the soft!)
But you need lots of luck in the game and you need to be brave at times but certainly not foolish. Treasure the good days and never forget about the bad ones

When I started working in 2002, I was excited to be using my own money to gamble - prior to that my dad used to give me allowance which iI used to gamble with (small PA + Pick 6), but to me was not nearly enough.
So when i started working I increased my budget, especially after getting DSTV in 2004. I was playing on average R50 a weekday and R100 a day on weekends (again mainly PAs and Pick 6's). This all changed, however, once the Pick 3 was invented.
I realised that catching 1% of the pick 6 most of the time paid less than catching 100% of a pick 3, so this is what I have played since 2008, with a budget of R150 a day, but I have not been disciplined in the past and sometimes a pick 3 that costed me R640 (what was I thinking?!) will only end up paying R36, but also sometimes for R18 I won R1250....so I suggest playing a small Pick 3 (max R36) in the hope of at least one outsider winning for you, in which case you will show a profit.
Unfortunately I have become tired of almost winning alot of money gambling on horses, and after 21 years of gambling, I have cut down dramatically in the last month, and now I plan on only playing Pick 3's on feature race days, and not for alot of money (maybe the amount of allowance that I used to get from my dad...

I must admit, I do envy the guys on ABC who consistently return a profit...as I have not been able to..so my best punting methods would be to stop it altogether...
