I did comment on this commentator before, but was shot down as he appears popular, not listening or watching racing but find his voice a "nightmare" as far as the pitch, but also his calling of a race is very poor

imvho

You know Dave, I can accept commentators making a mistake now and then, but this guy does it EVERY race meeting and yet Phumelela does absolutely nothing about it.....:S

I agree with all of the above. When I started racing and used to frequent the local tote, you should have heard what the boys in there had to say about the commentary. I cannot write it on here as most of it will turn into characters on this site!

Last week was pretty much the same. Completely wrong numbers, jockeys, horses etc. called. More nonentity!

I know that in the pre-Tellytrack days a friend of mine backed an easy "winner" in PE (according to the commentary) and sent someone to the bookies' across the road to collect. She came back empty-handed. It eventually transpired that the horse called the winner had been well clear in the closing stages but broke down badly close to the line and did not win - maybe didn't even finish, I can't recall.. You know what they say about the fat lady and her singing? There's a prime example right there. :D

To be fair to Dumpy .... PE has large fields most of the time and the sprints are a cavalry charge spread right across the track....

to be fair ,he has improved, in previous commentary he used to say 100 m to go fives times and the winner gets mentioned on the line
