HAVE YOUR SAY.

After having a discussion with an older colleague,i would like your opinions. The discussion was about him having all of his horses with 1 trainer. He has 6 horses, and not to mention the characters involved,i said i think he should spread his horses to various trainers,My experience over the years has made me spread my risk,as i thought its the correct thing to do.I could be wrong, but as i discussed with this colleague,i was going to post this question on this forum, and after the first fifty or so responces,we would see who is correct,so please feel free to have your say.1 trainer or more?

I guess you have to consider that they all have ups and downs and if you are with your trainer during a good spell, magic, however during a lean spell could be a financial disaster?

Putting loyalty one side might be better to spread the risk imo

I reckon Barry Irwins latest move locally and abroad should be a good indicator of the approach to use.

Then of course you have MDK - does he ever have a slump?

Problem is if you have all your horses in one stable your loyalty is taken for granted at times. Also if the stable has a slump for a month or two you stuck - while if you support more than one trainer you can still keep going. Bottom line is a stable must not fall into a comfort zone with owners - it happens so quick in the name of friendship!

Many trainers
1 manager
inhouse handicapper (can be the same person as the manager)

In an ideal racing world "yes" however many local trainers generally lack the professionalism to allow a racing manager dictate/consult on where and how a horse be placed in races many have that " what the f@ck do you know" attitude. I'm sure when it comes to a guy like Barry they bend over to have him and his racing manager work with them because they want those good horses in their stables. Start a Strangeway Racing Sydicate with a handful of R40-90k purchases you ain't going to get diddly or any sort of pull even with the trainers at the lower end of the logs.

Would much rather grow a relationship/trust with one trainer
