Someone fell off their horse up the straight in the 10th.........Despite all the above and in previous posts, I hope he is ok!

Surely common sense should be applied to these decisions. If the Eagle Squadron kept a straight line he would've won by more!

I just don't get how they can place a horse 1st that wouldn't have won under any circumstance, surely the only other result would have been to place La Beau Jalais as the winner???

They can't put La Beau Jolais in front of Azeroth if Azeroth beat him fair and square in the race proper. Which in this case I'm not sure is true, but without upholding an objection against Azeroth too there is no earthly way they could make La Beau Jolais the winner.

Basically, for an objection to be upheld it needs to be "proven" (as much as humanly possible, I guess) that without the interference the horse that was hampered would have finished in front of the horse that did the hampering. This is different to the old rule which said that an objection could be upheld if the hampered horse had been cost at least a place by the interference, whether or not it would have been the horse that did the interfering.

Under today's rules, Surfing Home would have kept that infamous July. However, Space Walk got that race for the same reason that Azeroth got the race today. Old rule or current rule, the hampered horse cannot be placed in front of a horse that didn't do the hampering. It boils down to being in the right place at the right time and "inheriting" a win after being beaten fair and square.

That said, I'm not sure that Azeroth was entirely blameless for what happened, but as I said earlier it would have required a succesful objection against Azeroth as well as Eagle Squadron for La Beau Jolais to be made the winner.

Thanks for that Magic. The stipes should have lodged an objection against Azeroth as well then!

I understand rules are rules but I just think its ludicrous to have a situation where the winner would have probably been beaten by the 3rd and demoted 4th place horse had there been no interference.

Surely the interference rules should be applied to ensure the fairest and most probable result, not some convoluted way of determining a winner who was actually beaten fair and square.
