Straight Line PA vs Multiple

Hi guys

Wondering if you could share your thoughts on this.

I normally play alot of straight line PA's and have had quite good success, but I was wondering if it would not be better to play a multiple bet over the same races.

For example:

Todays Pa: I have 2/6/3/10/9/7/6 after 4 races still in the pa paying R6.00 with 3 races to go ( R50 Bet ) R300.00

If I had taken a multiple it would of been: R50 Bet x R1.70 place x R1.70 place x R1.20 place x R3.30 place = R745.62

What you guys think? or has my maths gone for a ball of $hit

I am sure at this stage the R300 is the "minimum" payout, you should compare when the last race is run, plus other factors in the PA are if favs unplaced.

So maybe not just a case of a straight comparison and could change each meeting.

Fark B1 if you are catching str liners reguarly stick to a winning formula.... My only suggestion would be to play both, sometimes you get 4 horse payouts with the books compared to 3 place payouts on the tote?

PS. Maybe you should post your str line pa's so we can all take them:)

Ja please, we need some help, B1::o

I think it's an interesting point you raise, and I suspect it would differ from meet to meet - depending on the prices of the 'other 2' that runs into the PA; perhaps something to consider is to punt them individually and then gradually lesson your stake as you go along - say 100% of your stake on the first leg selection, then put 80% of your return from the first leg onto the second leg selection, and so on; that way if you go out in the last (which often happens to me) at least you may have made some profit from the individual bets.

Hi Guys thanks for the replies.

Yes I understand completely, I think from now on I will play a smaller bet both ways PA and Multiple that way I get the best and worst of both worlds.

HAHA, all I can say is that there is more luck from my side than a winning formula :) but next time I play I will post them and hope we can all catch it, one for the Clan.

Frodo thats definitely something to consider although I know that if i punt on them individually I will probably not have the Balls to place the last bet or two depending on how big the payouts have been. Secondly if I do lower the stake I might be winning more often but I wont be winning the same sort of money which I suppose its something I would have to test and lastly that would also mean I would need to be able to place a bet and check the results for every race which I unfortunately do not have the time to do.

Now I know I was one leg out for todays PA but to show the figurs I will just use the fav in the race I went out:

2/6/3/10/(9 replaced with2)/7/6

Multiple R50 x R1.70 x R1.70 x R1.20 x R3.30 x R1.60 x R1.50 = approx R1789

Pa
R50 x R20.70 = R1035.00

The PA payoiut is obviously heavily influenced by the prices of the other placed horses in each leg, a multiple isn't. (Let's forget for our purposes the scenario where a horse should have paid less than R1 for a place and the other dividends are adjusted to bring it up to a R1). Two different kettles of fish, really. Some days one will serve you better than the other, on other days it will be reversed. The multiple avoids the frustration of watching the horse you like doddle in and pay R3.00 a place while the 4/10 favourite that you brassed scrambles into third place by a short head....:D.

Even worse, if you don't dive for the mute button you then have to listen to the Tellytrack presenter saying "thank goodness the favourite ran third!" I know that's a subject for a different thread, but even as a non-punter that bullshite drives me round the freaking bend.
