We have abandoned our sense of history in SA racing and recently both the conditions of our big races have changed, as well as how we rate/qualify our runners. The effect is that winners of the past doesn't help us predict winners much now.
The July very much favours up-and-coming 3yo's as the last 5 years shows:
3 vs 2 (from a numerical disadvantage.)
But if you mean Bravura, I thought he traveled very well yesterday and we may have seen a Met winner.

I used to think it was embarrassing having a horse run 'down the field'. After all the chaffing I have had to endure following yesterday's rare ( actually - very rare! ) win I am looking forward to my next unplaced runner so that normality can be restored.
Anyhow - please keep up the marketing as maybe some middle eastern potentate will make me an offer and I will become the first small owner since the turn of the century to turn a profit from owning a racehorse!

I agree Hibs, the 3 year old colts are no good this year and I think Bravura will only carry 55 kg this year.
12-1 is still great value in my book. He's guaranteed to stay, got a great turn of foot and looks well in at the weights.

Hibs Scroll down until you see the fixtures on 11 May 2011 - This race day is always a pointer to the eventual winner of the July IMO - I am not talking to the winner of the Gold Challenge and perhaps the winner of Cup Trial to a lesser extent, but those that use these races as a warm up or qualifier for the big race.

It was obviously nice to see Bravura running like his problems are a thing of the past and,if so,and on his overall form, should be a runner on the big day.
However,I think Saturday's race is going to be an "ignore" race from an overall form point of view.
This is normally the case when the 2nd horse is 5.5 kilos "out at the weights" with the winner, and even worse off with horses behind it.

This years July looks like its definitely heading back to the Cape.
Bravura was brilliant,Big City Life had a great exercise gallop and tomorrow
we would see Castlethorpe throw his hat in to the ring.
