i could well end up being totally wrong but how does rabatache have a merit rating of 113?..he has won 4 ordinary type events beating the likes of upton park taras gem moonlight gambler and stormy express and now takes on horses that have won and being placed in group races AND HE MUST GIVE THEM WEIGHT..the handicaper has over rated him big time in my opinion

I can't have him today off that rating either, but that's the joys of handicapping. You take a stand, sometimes you are right and sometimes you are as wrong as the record company executive who said the Beatles would never amount to anything. I remember thinking that the PE horse Ocean's Away had been ridiculously handicapped a while back and he's won another four or five since. (:P)

That's what I like about handicaps. You think about it, and you make a decision. If it's the wrong decision, never mind, but trying to "buck" the system is what it's all about. I would be hard pressed to put Rabattache in a quartet to run fourth, perssonally. Now let's see what happens.

Yep. I felt the same way (especially with Frosty Song and after the horse she just beat in the maidens ran unplaced on Thursday....:) I think Bass will win that race today, although as I said in another thread Bush Pirate could be the party-pooper. So much talent for a horse who has won so rarely, but one of these days he can win a decent race.

Rabattache won and placed 13 out of 14 and with Striker up I am tempted to banker in my P/A.... but I have brassed it in my P6 and JPT. For the very reasons Pirate mentioned above. I was thinking to myself this morning when looking at the card about how the times have changed... eleven times winner Copa Dela Ray carrying the lowest weight with the lowest 'handicap' rating. On the old RF system he would have been top or near top weight......

Which goes a long way towards illustrating what was wrong with the old system.

Rabattache is a 6 time winner and has contested 3 little feature race ben place in two of them. Not sure if 113 is warranted, but certaintly is a good horse

He certainly is. The question is whether he is good enough for the task he faces today. I believe not, but time will tell.

I agree

I don't have him in any of my bets, but with striker up and him being in such good from from Friday, anything can happen

On the button indeed

But he never had the run of the race .......Striker could not get him over from the draw and when he did go for a run
was knocked out the way and out the race

When the outside draw at Kenilworth has the better going it becomes like the old Milnerton ........inside draws get
tough

Am looking forward to the Diadem ........ Rabattache is one of the best around

I agree he didn't have much luck in running, and when it comes to WFA terms he will surely be much more competitive. He is a very good horse, but perhaps not quite so good as the handicappers seem to think. Time may yet prove that they are right and I am wrong - but isn't that what handicapping is all about? It's your opinion versus the system, so so speak.B)-
