@RA:

This is a possible trick question & a hot potato which is not going to go down well in many quarters!:

In terms of Government's policy on BEE, Indians are termed 'blacks'. There is this observation that commerce and industry have exploited this loophole to employ Indians in preference to 'other' blacks. Government, in turn, has resorted to employing 'other' blacks mostly, as a tit for tat (inefficient as they can be)!

This is so as Indians are seen to be more 'pliable' and docile than other blacks (being relatively more educated and literate, etc) and can identify with western (white) norms (from the 'apartheid' days!) It is primarily this power play in our country's politics that is perpetuating extents of racism, inter alia, bwteen blacks and whites, and, Indians and other blacks.

The horseracing scene is a classic example.

There is a proliferation of Indians within the industry in various positions (but not in strategic, major decision-making positions, such as Chairperson, CEO's, GM's, etc). For instance, there is more than a duplication of Moodleys, Naidoos, etc (even husband and wife), not dissimilar to what the whites have (wife, brother, sister, son-in-law,....) as if this country suffers from a dirge of suitable 'others' (here, I refer specifically to both black and white candidates)!

On top of that, to date, not a single Indian has come out and spoken about meaningful transformation of the industry, or, criticised the incestuous goings-on, inconsistencies, asset strippimg, etc. beside hobnobbing with whites for positions (yet, we have had whites voicing their concerns strenuously, even facing disciplinary action, or kicked out!). Are these Indians your 'stable boys' to placate BEE? Is that why they have been chosen?

I leave the floor to you!

Regarding the Farrier school:

8 applicants were taken in and were taught the basic skills over a 2 year period. 6 of the 8 met the required skill level to pass the course. The 6 that passed required additional study under a master farrier (equivalent of articles), but of the 6, the Trust were only able to place 3 with a master farrier for further skills development. The lack of opportunities after completion of the initial training was the reason the farrier school was closed.

@RA:

Appreciate this response.

So, in other words, the door is effectively shut on anyone (black or white) to take up the trade as a farrier?

In another 10-20 years, farriers will be extinct with the current ones retiring from / leaving the industry.

If the industry could maintain a groom's school, why not a farrier training? Instead of taking on 6, rather have an intake of 1 or 2?

Did you consider the SETA's?

Here we go again...My only decent chance for Rajinzky to win her maiden...we were ready to pull the coup and beat the favourate and what happens...ABANDONED...just when things start getting better...the same shit again...

Come on RA... FORCE PHUMELELA to move the race meeting...not just abandon...the next Sand meeting only scheduled for 30 November cause we have to sit back so Turfies can have night meetings...to hell with Turfies...have it Saturday nights and pull a crowd...not Tuesdays when everybody sleeps for work the next day...I'm really getting irritated now as we tried on a diplomatic way but this is ridiculous...will P pay my trainers fee for November...not a chance...so get the your shit together and sort this out, it's not fun anymore...All weather my ass...

According to the latest Phumelela figures, there are more Blacks (2) than Indians (1) in executive management, as well as more at the senior management level where there are 4 Blacks and 1 Indian, as well as at the admin and technical level, where there are 28 Black and 4 Indians.

Therefore regarding the loophole in classification, it would appear that they are not using Indians to create an illusion of transformation.

Regarding the abandoned meeting on the Vaal sand on Tuesday 9 Nov:

Would be nice to get the 'official' comment on why the meeting was not moved (either to the following day (Wednesday) or to Saturday 13 Nov (no racing scheduled in Gauteng and surely there is enough jocks to replace the 'Springboks' if needed) and what the future plans are (if any) for fixing up the sand track so that it can absorb the surface water? Wasn't it 'topped up' just a couple of months ago? Is there a problem with 'the stuff' used in the topping up process?

Regarding the abandoned meeting:

The reason the meeting was abandoned was due to the 48mm of rain at the Vaal.

The reason the meeting was not moved to today is due to the abandonment policy of the operators which states that if a meeting is postponed (the sole discretion lies with the operator), it will need to move to a ‘stand alone’ slot, which would have only been possible for tonight, and preferably only postponed for 24 hours.

Wherever possible, the RA will always insist on postponing, as was the case for the Turffontein night meeting.

The races that were lost are already moving back into the Highveld pool, Turffontein night racing has an extra 2 races, and the Vaal meeting should have an extra 2 races as well.

Thanks for clarifying - a pity the explanation was not forthcoming at the time if the abandonment.

How can races from the Vaal sand be moved to Turffontein night?

TO RA...

Lame excuse on the operators behalf - point of the matter is if the operator can waste R8M on a so called "all weather track" then insist that the operator get out behind his desk and put a proper polytrack in place - it looks ridiculous when the tractor and water truck do their thing after every race - we live in the modern world for sucks fake! Will the operator subsidise owners to travel horses to the Fairview planned polytrack??? I think not...meanwhile year after year the operator knows the rain will come but still do nothing to put a workable surface or plan in place...

I insist that the RA push the operator to clarify what's gonna be done about this!!!! To slot in extra meetings or races ain't gonna change the fact that i lost a opportunity to earn a stake cheque and today i'm sitting to see if i'm getting eliminated again...and another 2 weeks go by and my trainer needs her fees...

This is a business just as the operator runs a business...the RA needs to take action and a stonger stance...

RAD, didn't you state on the VAAL ABANDONED THREAD that your trainer said there was 13mm of rain??

RA states there was 48mm of rain??

QUESTION: IF the International Challenge on Friday Night can't take place cause of the weather, will it be moved to Saturday bearing in mind that there is a meeting at Greyville?? ....

Well if they had 48mm of rain why are they racing today????????????? My trainer said they could have raced yesterday too...postponed to yesterday...makes no sense...the decisionmakers are trigger happy...remember last year the meeting for jockeys international was postponed...i'm pretty sure...could be mistaken...but 90% sure it was postponed...
