Who is the most consistent jockey in South Africa?

In my opinion many of our less '' visible '' jocks are great riders and I have no problem following them if I think their mount has a chance, and that includes the appies.One usually gets better prices as well. What I think would be great, is if a race day was organised where say the top 12 [ or more ] local jockeys got on horses allocated by a draw, not by being booked for the ride. I think that would make for a great days racing with possibly very interesting results. I don't suppose the owners and trainers would go for it, and maybe the jocks [ at the top end ] may not be too keen either, but I would love to see it.Something DIFFERENT on race day.
Anyway, just my opinion.

Watch Sherman Brown - he is riding with a purpose - the next champion in the making - humble - honest - all the qualities required to be successful!

Brown has ridden some superb races in the past month and should win ride of the month - Marcus and Striker are in a different league - STRIKE2(JP Vd Merwe) might just prove better than the rest in time - what a talented rider - wins from behind from the front mid-field - a natural - David is going to be solid in the future and will be a regular in the top five - Gavin Lerena has proven his worth especially with fillies while Brandon is the dark horse - Marcus has proven how good he is with many 'out-of-stable' winners in the past few months.

Anton Marcus is by far thee most reliable in my opinion.

What is scary is that not one of the previous posters mentioned our currrent champ- Anthony Delpech!! (goes to show you can ride winners and still not be flavour of the month)

I just wish Anton would back himself more when choosing rides - seems to second guess himself a lot!

it is difficult to judge, as far as you never know, if the horse could not have run better. at least one can compare results of the same horse with different jocks and you will see, that marcus and shea have more effective results than most of the others. but never forget: owners book marcus, when their horse is fit and they believe, he can win.

and you can see two qualities in the race: strategy and finish. when a raider is goin far wide or too quick, he has obviously no feeling for tempo etc.

finish: just watch the americain jockey Eddie Castro. how he pushes the horse to run, he knows, to get everything out of a horse. i saw him winning on horses which already tired in the middle of the race!

Alec Forbes was genious in winning with 20-1 and 30-1 shots. M. Yeni disappointed often, if you ask me. jocks also have their ups and downs, even the best ones.

Who is the best jockey ?

I tend to look at the >top jockey at this course< section in the race card as well as >Who's Hot and Who's Not< section in the Sporting Post. Everyone can look at the logs to see who the "Top Riders" are, you need to know who is consistent at the course you are playing at.

Delpech record speaks for itself...cannot believe only JD mentioned him.

The best, most consistent jockey just won the 1st race at the vaal, brilliant ride:)
