Scotia on Come dine with me

Hello all still been trying to take it easy but Mrs S wanted a PVR for her birthday and all she has done is tape Come Dine With Me and cooking programs, you might think that is acceptable but instead of my bacon rolls and sticking a few sausages on the braai and strawberries with cream, we still get strawberries but with balsamic vinegar (its not bad). However fillet steak with chili chocolate sauce!

So the bottom line is nothing normal for supper always something completely different and I have become the guinea pig on the possibility that they will have a SA version and Mrs S will be invited on the show (a million to one). Talking about million to one shots lets get back to racing.

What were the odds of two consecutive runners both favs and both the mounts of Spencer refusing to jump, I thought maybe on the second one that Jamie should have lit a hamlet cigar.

We again had some superb racing from York and the highlight for me was Rip Van Winkle waking up in the final furlong under a great ride from Johnny Murtagh.

Rip Van Winkle (left) finishes strong

As far as ante post and future races the Irish Champion Stakes on the 4th of Sept should see Fame and Glory top the boards on his way to the Arc on the 3rd of Oct where he is 7/2 with the well rested Sariska 20/1.

The least glamorous Classic the St Ledger is on the 11th of Sept from Doncaster and Rewilding is a worthy fav at 2/1.

At Ascot on the 25th of Sept we will have the Queen Elizabeth Stakes where the star Canford Hills should be hot fav and it will be interesting to see if RVW will be looking for revenge?

Local racing looks rather uninspiring this weekend with Kenilworth and the big T on Sat plus Scottsville on Sunday unless you are lucky to have a runner, so in that case next Wednesday looks a great card.

Its great having the English soccer back and we will have to wait to Monday night to watch the big game Man City vs Liverpool.

Mascherano could return against City

The rugby is back on home soil and would prefer Garrick's input however I would guess that the All Blacks have it in the bag at 6/10 and 11/10 half time/full time might be the way to go?

Will miss the game as I am attending a funeral just hope the home supports wont feel like they are doing the same.

Lost the rag a bit this week due to constant attacks on myself for over a year without any retaliation, its off my chest now and life goes on, can just hope that racing in general gets its act together and we work together for its survival.

I see Tony McCoy still heads the boards for the BBC Trophy and would it not be great to have a racing personality in the running in SA, sure we could take a few bob on MDK.

Not such a humorous post this week as its not been a funny week, catch you all soon and

good punting

Racing Post latest on St Leger

GODOLPHIN'S Rewilding, impressive winner of the Sportingbet.com Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last week, heads 16 entries for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Wednesday's forfeit stage.

A best priced 7-4 with the sponsors, Rewilding will be bidding to give trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni a first Classic victory. He joins stablemates Buzzword and Vibrant Force among the entries for the final Classic of the season.

Al Zarooni expects Rewilding to appreciate the extra distance of the 1m6½f St Leger, having raced only over as far as 1m4f in his six-race career. He said: “I think he will enjoy the step up to an extended mile and three quarters because he is a light horse.

“Rewilding has been very well since the Great Voltigeur Stakes. The race didn’t take as much out of him compared to the Derby, as he didn’t go to York fully wound up."

Aidan O’Brien is responsible for six for the remaining entries, with Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby one-two, Cape Blanco and Midas Touch, joined in the race by Await The Dawn, Bright Horizon, Flying Cross and Joshua Tree.

The sponsors introduced Cape Blanco into their betting at 10-1, with Midas Touch the shortest price of the six entries at 7-1.

O'Brien said: "We've left a few in, including the two who were placed in the Great Voltigeur, Midas Touch and Joshua Tree, plus Cape Blanco and Await The Dawn, who won at Cork on Sunday.

“No decisions have been made just yet, but we're still looking at the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes for Cape Blanco and/or Fame And Glory.”

Dual Oaks winner Snow Fairy remains amongst the possible runners, along with Dandino and Arctic Cosmos.

The most notable forfeits were Simon De Montfort and Monterosso.
