What punters and a majority of owners don't seem to realize is that the biggest problem with the modern Thoroughbred is breathing (as in the inability to do so without gasping, bleeding, etc.). Night air is heavier and causes problems. As for gamblers, they gamble increases, as nobody can predict which horses will act more adversely to the heavier air.
I hate all weather racing because I think the surfaces suck for horses. They are all right for training, but bad for racing them. Too many soft tissue injuries that never heal.

Mr. H,
I think the surface that is a lot kinder to horses is the "Tapeta" surface they are using in Dubai for the first time this year and also have been racing on in Cali for a while now.
I'm not sure it is all weather though. It is probably not, but kinder to horses anyway.

I am a bit perplexed as to why SAF needs night racing (its not Dubai with daytime temperatures unbearable)? and spent millions to create the facilities?. Is there a market to justify the expenditure - perhaps overseas punts? your views please...

Don,Hopefully the new night meetings will attract new race goers or re ignite the fire in the guys that used to be regular at the tracks..
Will only work though if the authorities keep stoking the fire..
