I would ask the trainer to define his definition of '' Nice ". Nice when talking about a person - pleasant, satisfactory, kind or good-natured. If the trainer says '' He/She is a nice horse '' then I would be lead to believe that the horse is good and can run ?

No MM dont have my own ideas but Ive been told sooo many times this is a nice horse then wait in great anticipation only to then hear things after it starts racing
"needed the run"
"too short"
"dont know what the jockey was trying to do"
"needs more time" etc etc
When you got a real good horse the word "nice" never comes into it..they tell you straight.."it worked with a 4 time winner today and beat him easy on the gallop"
or the Jockey (note jockey) gets off after a morning gallop and says "this is top class he floats"

Heehee guys we are just suckers..when we cant work anymore and we stuck in a cupboard in some freezing retirement home trying to take a pa for R6.00 we will rue the day we ever got involved in owning or punting horses..what a waste of money!

i have always maintained through my years of racing that the definition of a good trainer is one who is accurate in their assessment of a horses ability or lack of ability..if a trainer can be accurate 90 percent of the time to where your horse will run whether it is first last or midfield and how it will run show pace and then plod or will be outpaced and run on then THAT PARTICULAR TRAINER KNOWS THEIR HORSES ..i couldnt give a rats aas if a trainer has 60 winners a season but has no idea to a horses chances and how it will perform.

I firmly believe that putting horses in the right races is a big part of what makes a good trainer. I know it is not always that easy but it is a major part of getting moderate horses especially to earn to their fullest potential. Some trainers are patently clueless in this regard.
