I hope that this is some sort of rumour mongering.

My bet is this is a misunderstanding by somebody misreading the "Jay Peg to Singapore" news.
At least I hope I'm right!

My understanding of this issue is that it is true although I am not sure with regard to Richard Fourie.

Singapore Turf Club
Friday, June 26, 2009
The training ranks in Singapore will be strengthened by South African trainer Basil Marcus (pictured above) come December 2009.
Marcus started training in 2003 after a highly successful career as a jockey during which he rode in excess of 3,000 winners and was seven-time champion jockey in Hong Kong.
Marcus is currently training in Cape Town, South Africa, where he prepares more than 120 horses.
His major successes as a trainer include winning the Group 1 Cape Guineas and the Group 1 Cape Derby with Jay Peg – who went on to win the 2008 Singapore Airlines International Cup and the 2008 Dubai Duty Free.
Other notable horses Marcus has trained include Desert Links (who has been imported into Singapore) who won the Group 1 Canon Gold Cup, Majestic Sun who captured the Group 3 Matchem Stakes and Countess Corlia, winner of the Group 3 Champagne Stakes.
He has consistently been among the leading trainers in Cape Town in the last three years.
Marcus will start off with about 40 South African horses which will arrive in Singapore between December 2009 and February 2010.

Wow, he's taking 40 South African horses?
Local breeders are going to have to start getting the stallions working overtime with all our horses going abroad.

Wake up call for SA's racing clan.
If Basil Marcus is leaving, probably a sign that it didn't take him long to realise just how close knit the "racing fraternity" is in SA....(read that as corrupt), hope it is not a case of fit in or f*** off.
...with the success that he has had,the rest of the comfort zone clan are probably seeing this as competition "unwanted", do not need any upstarts, to upset the apple cart, probably created more enemies than friends, by taking on the local scene.
And now with the government wanting it's cut too, AA, just need to find the right AA runners, this is a recipe for ....disaster
Today's racing at Turfontein, is a good smack in the face that even trying to read form is a waste of time...
With all the form available, even Einteins would not be able to figure out the probability of a horse winning in SA..

didn't know he had 40 GOOD horses in his string out of 120 in training.
I hope most of them can pay their way afetr travelling expences, and the rest.
& the stable jockey to go.... is it Richard ?

Double edged sword - if he takes 40 horses locally bred and they do well then breeders can breathe a sigh of relief as an international market opens up - the other side is not so good as he is a great horsman and Richard Fourie improved out of his skin with Basil so to lose that knowledge is bad - Basil works hard and I'm sure he will return with orders for our local sales with buckets full of forex

Only 26 going initially.....mostly young horses so will be interesting times ahead to test the waters.....great opportunity for Richard Fourie to gain international experience....just like most of the top jocks before him have done.A maiden race after deduction is nett R110K......so maybe an owner will at least be able to break even on as month to month basis.Good for SA bred horses as they will also becomes internationally known....
