From a form perspective are we contending with 2/30 years or 2/20 years? Then if we narrow it down to the 3yr olds competing in KZN...... Does the current odds for Cousin Casey in the Daily News or the July look appealing?
Not for me... That just me.
It's pretty hard to get archives for feature races in South Africa and if you can you need to pay. Statistically in the last 10 years from my memory most of them never win a Grade 1 thereafter. Maybe horses that placed might have won a Grade 1.
At one stage there even had a 1900m race on July day for 2yo's. The Shiek and Delta Form ran in that race and won Grade 1s in their career. Also Key Of Destiny won that 1900m race and was a multiple Grade 1 winner. My opinion is that there is fewer Juvenile distance races these days and less horses are making their debut's as 2yo's. Therefore precocious and speedy 2yos are getting to win these races. Also the closing of Clairwood Park, less 2yo's from the Cape are debuting in KZN and therefore not competing in the 2yo features in KZN.

Feel like Cousin Casey has shown his hand - Reminds me of Jackson - Broken by better horses around him at the time.
Without Question still has room for improvement.

Cousin Casey was champion 2yo winning both the 1400m and the 1600m at Greyville but it’s his 3yo form that is more important now as the on,y horses of note that he had to beat as a juvenile were Royal Victory, Prophet and Billy Bowlegs.
He gave 2kg and a beating to a useful field in the gr 2 Cape Cup (previously the Selangor) and then was 2nd best to Charles Dickens in the Cape Guineas, coming from a poor position.
He then skipped the Cape Derby ( which I think he would probably have won had he run) and ran 2L 5th in the Met at WFA, again not enjoying the best of passages from a wide draw. That form is better than the Derby form in my opinion, and proves that he is better over 2000m than 1600m at this stage.
In the Byerley Turk he gave 6kg to the field and was just pipped over a trip now too short. His KZN Guineas run was disappointing- but are we going to write him off because he was a bit flat that day and ran a couple of lengths below best?
See It Again and Without Question will provide stern opposition in the Daily News, but I’m firmly in the camp of Cousin Casey.
