According to SP he has already been found guilty of Crimen Injuria and has already paid a R1000 fine for that offense so who knows if he is being charged for assault also-

We are moving from Stockholm Syndrome to Battered Wife Syndrome..... It must have been the cops fault, if he just left Mr Fortune alone, everyone knows he gets angry

I was on course for about 3hrs. If I saw 5 policeman/woman in that time it was a lot. We were all told before the meeting that we could not watch from the front of the stand and we were to go directly to the View Room to watch the canter down and race. The LAST thing we need is the police to say that we did not abide by the covid restrictions that are applicable to the meeting and stop racing altogether for the future.

Craig I think you where not allowed to watch from the grandstand probably because they didn't want the cameras to pick up people on course, not sure it had much to do with covid restrictions.
More people congregating in a certain area would be more against covid restrictions I think.

I don't think anyone is disputing the point that one can't hit anyone - especially a police officer - and expect to get away with a slap on the wrist; and seeing that he is (I believe) officially sanctioned by the NHRA as assistant trainer, it also means that the NHRA is in their rights to investigate the incident and issue punishment as they see fit (given his previous offences)

The point I think many of us are trying to make, is that there should not have been ANY police on site, to try and lay down the law to a few hundred (?) people in an area where there is ample room for social distancing; but for many more other 'gatherings' where a couple of thousand people congregate, the Police look the other way

I've enjoyed the Durban View Room on a few occasions , however to be in an enclosed area with no idea of what the maximum capacity will be and where people MUST eat and drink and cheer their fancies home.

Thanks but I know where I would be standing or sitting , it's a no- brainer.

P.S..

And hiding the view of the grandstands from the TV Cameras, really.
Where were the grooms housed to watch their prized inmates perform?

The SEA COTTAGE ROOM perhaps?

Dave Scott wrote: Better still, would be that next year's theme for July, should be Zulus.

We can rock up dresses as Zulus and do what the hell we like and the police will keep their distance with no arrests or fines 😄

Nice one. You must be very confident that you have no Zulu members on this site let alone Zulu jockeys or owners who view the posts.
What is happening in Nkandla is a disgrace. The inability of the police to enforce the law is shocking.
But this should not detract from the incident at Greyville and such behavior should be punished.
To question the double standards of the police is no different to Zuma supporters questioning why did the previous National party leaders not go to prison for their crimes against humanity

The view room had about 40 people in it and all spread way apart. On the lower section where I was, there were only 10 people where it can seat about 60 I would guess. The other tiers were the same. Some just stayed in the parade ring to watch the canter down and the race. Very strictly controlled.

my sympathies rest with the Fortune stable for the loss of their client.
From what i read here,Andrew was seated with his wife in the isolated grandstand. One partner was observing the protocols.
An arguement ensured with the racecourse security regarding his mask.

l was furious when i read that bit,as it refreshed an incident i had in 2018 Gold Cup.mine was that i used the steel staircase from the ground floor that leads to the entrance of the D View room.
I was accosted near the bookmakers cubicles.
I was accused of also being a cheat because i didnt have my entrance ticket(in pocket) on display!!!
The young short burly security guard wouldnt want to listen to me until i showed him my ticket.I complained to another security guard who contacted his supervisor on cours,He apoligised profusely for the incident.Only later after my 2nd incident that day i learnt of Mr Raf Sheik(Hollywood Greyvilles own Chuck Norris).

AF has tons to offer for local racing.
If only he called for Raf at that time.
From my knowledge with 3 decades of attending racecourses, regular SAPS always attended renown days.
Probably newbies at that VDJ

Sometimes human beings retaliate with swinging fists because their rebuttals (translation from mother tongue to a language of conversation in situation can be frustating).

My opinion, surely the security staff should have informed GC management before callng SAPS.

all the best to AF

Tigershark wrote: I think it is the capitalists behind this and that he is totally innocent, always has been..... got to love the Stockholm Syndrome on here.

The DBN View Room was made available for trainers as the Racing Operators want to ensure that racing continues and one of the conditions was not to show anyone in the stands on live TV which would court more controversy. I suppose we could find yet another reason why no rules or laws apply to Mr Fortune.

I wonder what would be the opinion if this happened prior to the JULY and racing was cancelled because of it?

Puke.
