Its the one mentality I could never understand about SA. The very thing we want, we show intent by destroying it.

Want free education? Burn the schools!
Want free transport? Burn the busses!
Want better pay for being a groom? Butcher the horses!

This will go on until there is NOTHING left and rebuilding, will make no sense to anyone. The latter is being seen with Yvette and others now.

You so right Press.
You would think we are the most uneducated and brainless nation out there.
The minority give the majority a bad name but our minority seems to be pretty big and as long as we have a useless and corrupt government (ANC will never lose in our lifetime or even our children's lifetime) things won't change.
Our leaders are setting a bad example and then we have the EFF who are the biggest racists out there telling people to strike and toy-toy if you not happy instead of talking.
This country will continue to go backwards at an alarming rate and as much as we think we have such a beautiful country a lot of having a beautiful country means having sensible, honest and caring people and unfortunately we lack those type of people in abundance.

.....very sad indeed....Uncle Ormonde also threw in the towel due to labor issues and as this cannot go on.....there needs to be drastic reform and transformation to try save the labor issues from being a cause of dissatisfaction.....I hope that a lesson is learned and trainers have these UIF issues squared away.....I do not know the actual legality if UIF is mandatory to this industry and I hear that persons earnings below R6500/PM UIF is not applicable.....and so if so ...this has to be amended by government or workers min wage must be in line with UIF payment policies....

Muhti there is only the NHRA that can sort this out .Instead of telling trainers they employ the grooms so must sort out problems .How come the Trainers, Assistant trainers and Stable Employers fall under theire rules .The NHRA dont employ the above But yet they licence them .Grooms should be licensed and any stepping out of line should be put on banning list with ID no and photos and not allowed near a racing Establishment .

The NHA spoke about doing this 2 years ago when the grooms issue came up with riots etc.
There is R4bar at NHA for restructuring..nothing happens!
Trainers, as part of their leases have to comply with UIF, Workman Comp, work permits etc but no enforcement of registrations of grooms

Horrific abuse of animals is quite common, and not isolated to certain race groups, as some would like to portray.

Lion Hunting, bull fighting, whale hunting etc happens all the time.

Google horrific abuse of animals...it's shocking what people are capable of.

If the Nha are not responsible for the grooms then are they going to throw the book at all Stable employees and Assistant Trainers that took part in Thursdays ordeal on a race course . ?

Especially with photographs to identify some of the assailants

Not really sure what you trying to point out here Lionel.
We talking about people who are employed to care for these animals not the japanese whale hunters or the yanks coming to Africa to kill a trophy lion.
Posters would still have the same opinion wether the savages that did this where Indian,Chinese,Mexican or any other race group so bringing the race card up is really not necessary.

.....so it seems that the striking workers were given bum advice by their so called union and landed up with NADA UIF pay....they then took revenge on their employer that they had walked out on because a co worker was legitimately fired for brutally stabbing a horse.....

Mark yep correct. This incident was very sick and caused terrible emotional anguish to most people who love animals worldwide. It should never have been able to happen as in all businesses we know the huge undercurrent tensions. Racing management needed to take security precautions a long time ago when the first strikes and protests started a year or two ago.
The weekend before this incident Gift of the Givers were in EC reporting back people were eating plants, dogs, cats and tortoises and there is no water in many areas. This does not justify the sick attack on harmless horses and especially for the owners and trainer who had their hoses physically attacked and one killed is shocking to say the least.
The NHRA and Phumulela need now to take a long deep look into their responsibilities, they manage racing and need to keep it safe from this type of thing ever happening again.
