Re:Dress code at the course

This is really f*&$ up and everything thats wrong with racing. You have "owners/entourage" accepting trophies wearing T-shirts, members in slops and shorts, thats all fine ....?? I cant think of a time I have been to Fairview not wearing jeans and nobody has ever uttered a word.
PE racing is one of the nicest racing experiences in SA, they are always very accommodating and for the love of me I cant understand why this happened. SAD !!

.....unfortunately in this case the bird as already flown......Felix will get an apology and be offered a big all in freebie....however he/his guests will soon be back in Cape Town.....:whistle: ...we seldom are able to have do overs to rectify spoiled opportunities...... and this why racing is always trying to catch up while other hospitality driven past times have already beat them to the winning post......:S

This is gross incompetence of the highest order. For years we have heard the powers that be bemoan the dwindling on course attendances. They blame it on everything else bar themselves.

Here we have 12 people on course ready to splash the cash, and they are denied service because of they are wearing jeans!!!

This story belongs on the front page of an April 1st newspaper. What a joke!!

Find the people responsible and kick them out. NOW!

Thanks for the reply,but please could we now consider the matter closed.My partner is a bit peeved that I posted on the forum,she pointed out to me that by posting, I could have potentially harmed someone's career prospects and at worst they could lose their job. I'd like to state that my rant was "anti-establishment" and in no way directed at the young lady who was polite and courteous. I also must point out that we did not have a prior reservation.If we had made a booking perhaps we would have been informed of the dress code.

Anyway I hope our experience might convince the powers that be to address this antiquated dress code issue.As stated above I consider the matter now closed.

The crux of the problem here is that......its fine for SOME to wear jeans and not others. Its simple stick to the rules 100 %.....or not at all.

I hope lessons were learnt here.....for ALL the racing clubs.

.....Felix you have done nothing wrong.....if people do not complain or bring to the attention of the powers that be it will carry on and on.....also remember that people cannot be dismissed from their jobs for doing their job... and if the person made a mistake she/he should still have a career.....but if things like this are not brought into the open then when local racing finally fails.....no one will have a career in this industry.....I find that your post has value for dress codes to finally be made more defined.....FFS not allowing jeans is like 1980's night club rules.....we are well into another century and these codes need to be updated.....as jeans are iconic fashion statements in this new century...

......but equally unfair is that connected racing people can wear what they want and are oblivious to a so called dress codes.....:S

I think that's very accommodating of you - but as others have posted, it should not be about whether someone loses their job - and anyway the 'young lady' was only carrying out her instructions - the point here is this 'for some people the rules can be bent, but not for others' attitude, and management (at all tracks) should take note of this and realize that discrimination is not on - the days of the 'small man' just taking it on the chin and move on, are long gone - thanks 'social media' and sites like these

And if 'they' had any sense at all, they would apologize in public - and maybe get some mileage out of their apology

What price you want to lay one of them were in short pants, if the rule says no shorts then no shorts, where does it say no jeans, so why would they be turned away? But that’s me reading between the lines ..

On another note.. if you go into the parade ring wearing shorts And flops then you have no respect for the owners around you who dressed up and show respect the sport always commanded.. I hope they never concede to that bullshite...

There’s Mrs Slack Or Mr Maponya standing next to guys wearing sleeveless vests, shorts and flops in the parading ring - do me a favour - why don’t we just open the parade ring to everyone - let anyone in whether they own a horse or not, now that’s what you call changing with the times...

Fairview is a f ucking scandal......I had to get Mr Passerini to assist me. The RA person in charge ( a lady) threatened to have me removed if i wore my cap in the RA room. Now the cap i had just put on was an International Racing Club cap which i was going to wear into the parade ring for one of our horses that was running.

I don't want to play too many cards but ill play a few......WE the IRC have done loads for promoting SA racing (no rebates given or wanted) we have brought in new owners and have quite a following internationally. After i went berserk at this pathetic threat Betty and Mr Haze walked in....2 of the nicest people you will ever ever meet....they are awesome so I hate having to say this BUT Mr Haze is wearing a cap and sits at the same table as us visitors ( i had 2 clients there from the UK)

NOW 3 months ago one of my followers from Twitter someone Ive never met messaged me and said he was in Durban and wanted to treat his mother to a day at the races for her 60th could i give him a winner or 2 and some advice....

I rang one of our trainers Doug Campbell and arranged for James to meet him. I asked Doug to look after them please as they could be potential clients. Doug arranged 4 seats at his table and all was set....They arrived at the course called Doug and were denied access to where ever Doug was sitting as they arrived in Shorts ( somehow we all forgot to discuss dress code).....Doug went to Michel Nairac told him the story and they were allowed in. Doug then took them to the parade ring and even let Jame's mother lead in his winner.....

James is now an owner of mine (ours SA horse racing) in SA racing...

The difference is there for all to see Gold Circle are progressive....the rest are part of the stelenbosch mafia and still rule with intimidation and divide and conquer strategy.....

So Easy if someone else arrived at Greyville in shorts and didnt know Mr Nairac or the trainer would they have been let in or would they also notice that some are allowed and others not??

......as far as I can remember Mr Haze has always worn a cap.....and thus there has to be a discretionary addendum to dress codes but one cannot remove some items from dress codes for fear that it becomes a free for all and people start coming into eating/hospitality areas with tatty smelly caps.....with this been said Easy should not have been requested to remove his cap as here discretion should have applied as it should have with the jeans issue......now I love wearing baseball caps I have quite a collection but would never wear one in an eatery or social dress casual events......I was once asked to remove my cap when entering a Betting World branch and did not fuss as it was for security reasons as would be robbers are known to mask themselves from security cameras with peaked caps.... had the security allowed me in with a cap.....just think how it may have looked to the rest of the mainly non white patrons who were asked to remove theirs......:huh:
