......:oops.....no its a track inspection..... :

I wonder what was the outcome of the inspection....both horses seemed to stumble at the same spot.

Apparently a bad patch was found...absolutely ridiculous that it was found AFTER an incident. Nothing surprises me in SA horse racing anymore. The person responsible should be charged for gross negligence and removed ASAP so that no one else ends up in this dangerous situation again.

Bloody hell....talk about absolute basics not in place!!!

.......just watched the replay on SP......shocking..... more than one horse stumbled on that patch and a few others faltered......course inspections before the start of racing should be mandatory......far too many incidents lately that could have been avoided with more diligent procedures.....

TRACK NOT TO BLAME

Following the unfortunate incident at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last Wednesday when two jockeys came down and the subsequent criticism of the track on public forums, Gold Circle Management, the NHA and a trainer’s representative made a thorough inspection of the track this morning.

The inspection team consisted of Gold Circle Racing Manager Raf Sheik, National Horse Racing Authority Chairman in KZN, Shaun Parker, trainer’s representative Paul Gadsby and Track Manager Michael Ndlovu.

Ndlovu had not carried out repairs to the area where the falls occurred. After a thorough inspection of the area and surrounds there was no evidence to suggest that the track surface could be blamed for the incident.

The so-called ‘hole’ or ‘wet patch’ that was reported on the day was a repaired divot that was measured 58 metres before where the incident took place and in no ways could have been responsible for the first horse stumbling.

Ndlovu rubbished claims that the track is not inspected before every race meeting.

“I personally walk the track to check that the rails are correctly position and three of my staff also walk the track to check for anything untoward and take the pen readings.”

“Pen readings are taken in three places across the track at 100m intervals and the average recorded and made public. With four of us on the track before the race meeting any obvious problems would be picked up,” he said.

Gadsby was satisfied that the track was not at fault, in fact he said the surface was in excellent condition.
Parker was also complimentary of the track and felt that there was no way the incident could be blamed on the track.

The next racemeeting at Hollywoodbets Scottsville takes place this Sunday.

The official stipes report tells what happened:

Approaching the 800 metre mark TWICE GOLDEN stumbled badly dislodging Jockey A Mgudlwa. As a result BAYVIEW EXPRESS (*A Arries) in attempting to jump the fallen rider, fell, dislodging Apprentice A Arries. Simultaneously JARENE (*T Gumede) stumbled, became unbalanced and was eased. Thereafter DUTCH ALLEY (K de Melo), BROOKLYN (*L Ferraris), LIGHTNING PARCADOR (E Ngwane), POWER TO COMMAND (S Moodley), QUATRO FIVE SIX (S Brown) and YUKTA’S DANCE (W Kennedy) were hampered, switched out and raced wide on the bend from the 800 metre mark.As a result of taking evasive action due to the above incident, the saddle on QUATRO FIVE SIX (S Brown) slipped sideways

Following a report from the NHRA Veterinary Surgeon a track inspection was carried out on an area of the track on the bend near the inside running rail.

Following this inspection a decision was made to move a section of the running rail out approximately 5 metres to avoid the area of concern. This caused a delay to the running of Race 4.

Now I'm more confused!

....and now so am I....I clearly saw 2 horses several lengths apart strike the same patch and falter..... one of them was a faller the other did not....the other faller in the race fell after jumping the 1st faller and then landed awkwardly....had there been no problem with the track then why was the rail then moved to avoid the area in question....

If im not mistaken was at greyville... I spent 45min searching and am hopeless lol......
