G bets has one of the worse limits. WSB T&C's is a must read. Once you become a winner often on the Open bet, you get severely restricted.
.....so what you are saying is that Checkers and Shoprite may have Gr8 prices yet they have hardly any stock available......

I must admit to being intrigued by the debate on this subject on what is basically a punters site, with a sprinkling of owners here and there. From a punters perspective, I don't give a damn about stakes. Stakes do not affect me in any way. As a punter my focus is "investing" in where I get the better return. With all due respect to the owners out there, your troubles are not my troubles, and my money in exotics is 100% placed on the open bet platform for one reason only, because it benefits me every time.

I must say i agree with this fully. But another point is if i win 10000 with the tote and try to cash the ticket then it becomes a problem, they scratch around for 20 and 50 rand notes, they moan and groan and want to give a voucher for the balance, the next day i try to cash the voucher then there is no money and i end up taking bets with it and losing. If you win with a bookmaker i have never had a issue with them not having money.

I don't care about stakes. I can see it's going to be a major problem, if it isn't already. When I bred horses, my problem was to sell them, i didn't care about stakes because never once, was that an issue.
I've owned lots of horses, always with partners and friends, and never was stakes an issue specifically.
Recently a friend of mine got rid of his two horses, and told me the spend was north of 24k each month. Holy shit. But I watch race after race, interview after interview, and you can see stakes is not an issue bigger than any other.
But, since the Met on Jan 26th, there has been no racing in Cape Town, and the next meeting is Feb 9th!! I haven't read 1 complaint, which does not mean that this isn't a thing. But if it is, no one is saying so I guess it's being taken in stride, and punters can find other shows.
I would have taken 1 of the millions from the Met (sorry winning connections), and had a Saturday meeting on Feb 2nd or 3rd. But that's probably not how you think big. And I know you might think I'm worried about owners and horses standing in boxes, but I was wondering about the punters and their hobby and the game just closed for two weeks mid season. Correction: end of season I realize.

So the racing jurisdictions that are all growing do not have an open bet or bookmakers....... we must know something they don't.

.....this game is full of lurks and quirks especially on the punting side....when I was young and dumb I bet with bookies because you could show off a ticket with a name of winner and you felt like a big boy....at the time I also played at bucket shops by phone for ease of having an account
.....older and wiser I now see that many bookies are not playing by the book and some off the book....one year in Cape Town I won a bomb when River Jetez won and a huge double with Sangria Girl in the stayers.....I believed that my bet was with a reputable now well known branded establishment but when I went to collect the next day they had no cash.....or so they said
I was then paid out in weekly installments.....it turned out that some employee/s
were running a side book with a printer to get bets from non-locals basically stealing from the establishment.....I still see such tricks at a few bookies that get chumps to play on the open bet and not the tote
.....I/m happy to stay at home and bet with the tote which has a certain element of security......
