I think that Snowdance is at her best over 1400m and a fast run mile is at the limit of her stamina. Final Judgement set a very solid pace - note that Petrovskia and Copper Force ran 1 Second slower in their race than the fillies carrying similar weights ( the winner and third in the handicap carried only 52kg).
The gap between the first two and Elusive Heart & Gimme Six was 2.3L so I think that we must acknowledge that Redberry Lane has improved significantly to about 110) and Snowdance’ s rating is probably too high, but she did run a little bit below best, but possibly due to the fast early pace.

I was at the course yesterday and initially i thought that i was lucky due to being in the company box in the South stand.
Let me tell all you guys who were not there, July Day as a racehorse spectacle is done and dusted !!!!!!!!!
]If 20% of the people on course actually new anything about horse racing that would be to much.
The continuous noise aka music stemming from the various stages set up around the course made it impossible to hear the commentary, believe me this was the entire day the whole day ....
Fashion .....Oh my dizzy aunt ... do not even go there , my dad who is wxtremely quiet and accomodating of anything and eveything, actually commented that his dad must be turning over in his grave.
Scores of drunk people were anywhere and eveywhere to be seen....make up and high heels converts 15 and 16 year olds into drunk adults it would appear.
The positive was the track looked in tip top condition however i am of the opinion the uncontrollable audio from the various stages actually contributed to below par runs from certain horses. It was clear to see that as the horses entered the track from the chute a few were overwhelmed by the "noise pollution" which may i add was not stopped during the race.
July Day .......me thinks not ..... should be incorporated into Durban Day which happens in September .... same noise, alcohol filled youngsters and at least the horses wont be put throughnall of it ....told my dad when we wete leaving that this was my jast July day attendance unless the July Day feeling returns on course but very much doubt that is ever going to happen..

I absolutely agree with you.
The Winning Post picnic sites have been moved and there does not seem to be the same atmosphere on course. People there just there to get drunk with no focus on the horseracing.
This will be my last July on course!!!

I had a bad day - started with the hooligans at Turffontein who closed the gates preventing me from entering - of course they opened just as I got back home  But at least it seems I did not have to endure the punishment dished out at Greyville
Regarding ANS - yes I believe the horse was over-racing - but van Niekerk made the wrong decision - probably would still not have won (but we will never know) - just shows that jockeyship can make a difference in top level handicaps contested by good horses - Marcus did everything right.
The laughable comment by our Mr Vee abt the 3yr olds being so well in - yes a 3yr old won, but I guess nobody told Made to Conquer (surprised me) and Elusive Silva that they were badly weighted compared to the 3yr olds
Snowdance just does not see out a true run 1600 in top company - had a feeling that she would fold at the death, but have to admit that I could not see Redberry Lane winning at the weights
The less said about Dutch Philip the better
And just to close off the day, a horse from Gauteng badly out at the weights ran rings around the proven class horses Perovskia, Copper Force and Our Mate Art - that's racing - not for the feint-hearted

Gents I had the best July ever,
I backed the winner, had a few doubles and caught the quartet.
I also backed the following horses straight up, Township Melody, Celtic Sea, Barahin, Do it Again, Kazaar and Givitsum.
On the pick six, i am disappointed with myself as i took two of them as i never trusted Snowdance in the race as she was beaten twice over the course. And i looked at Redberry Lane but brassed it as I thought it was way out of the weights with many seconds to average horses.
That being said, I returned with a good profit for a change.

in years gone bye we used to get the final results from 1st to last on this site, the biggest shock of the day was the winner of the garden province a gr1 which cost most punters their exotics, including me,but no need to cry as most experts gave their views and tried to explain how that horse won the race, but me i have a different view, but i will get into trouble for saying what i think happened, but be that as it may,it is done and we must just except it and move on.well done to the winners on the day,the stables, the owners and the punters who found the winners and made profit from the day.

Alec failed to mention that the Snaiths other horse African Night Sky, the peoples favourite failed to ran a place after a shitty ride by Grant van Niekerk as well as the horse Justin said "is a racing and p6 banker" Snowdance lost and cost the punters millions... resulting in a R280k payout. I would have taken the R12k anytime had Snowdance won! as well as my 5000 straight out win bet on Snowdance taking Justins word... down the drain... not everybody is happy Mr Snaith. Goodluck and congrats on your 1 2 3 and 5 but that does nothing to the punters who bankerd Snowdance in their respective pick 6s and had ANS roving in their quartets and trifectas.. Please explain how Star Express manage to beat ANS last month and ran downfield in the July?.at the time bombing the p6s also.. winning that race just to ensure Star Express a run in the July? You all could be very lucky Its My Turn was eliminated from the final field as it would have ruined the Snaiths party. What happend to Laffertys horse Dark Moon Rising who they all got to beat?... well just about everybody has beaten him Mr Lafferty!.. that says a lot about the July panel!, a bunch of morons....and yes, Im talking out of my pocket, Im a punter, you know, one of those idiots who keep racing alive!... have a look at race 12 July day... Grade 1 races horse, we are talking Met and Queens plate quality runners got beaten by a horse called Infamous Fox, this horse could not beat Star of Joburg, Gambado and Takaduma.. ever heard of these animals?.. Perovskia has beaten Undercover Agent in a Grade 1, Copper Force ran Leagle Eagle to a half a lengh whilst Eyes Wide Open has beaten Do It Again, The Slade, Elusive Silva..? Why run a horse on July day just to get a run Mr Glen Kotzen? Somebody is making money raking in the huge July day P6s JP and Quartets, and that is definatley not me... mind boggeling, but yes, this is South African racing! I wonder who highjacked the specimen samples taken during the day, after the July race meeting. Spike a horse and get rid of the evidence.... very shady business this....

GVN probably going to HK with confidence at an all time low. That's the last thing he needs as that place is super competitive and if you not performing you quickly get forgotten. He's a good rider and I hope he starts off well and gets support from the top trainers.Callan Murray been there so he knows what's it about and with decent rides both of them will show how good SA jockeys are.
