Well done Justify. From a debut winner in February 2018 to a Triple Crown Winner in 5 months. Impressive, always under control. Well done, Mike Smith.

Is it just me or has the winning of the Triple Crown in the US and SA become more common in recent years? Normally there seems to be long gaps in between winners but not of late...

It was 37 years since we had a triple crown winner and the gap was only 2 between American Pharoa and Justify

We had Louis the King and Albashiri not far apart after a long gap from Horse Chestnut and then we have American Pharoah and Justify not far apart after a long gap from Affirmed and also had two Triple Tiara winners not far apart in Igugu and Chery on the Top...just seems to be that phase when a few not far apart then there will a long gap again...

What i regard as the triple crown is the 2000 gns derby and st leger

It was a break of 35 years when Nijinsky did it in 1970 so its 48 years since won and saxon warrior was rumoured to be the one after Camelot.

I think that the St Leger in not so fashionable due to being a longer distance and it clashes a bit with the ARC which is a really true great race to win.

Even the great Nijinsky won the Leger in a cantor but got beaten a short head in the Arc (did it stumble close to the line, did Lester make a mistake, was it too much to do the Leger and Arc) ????

My fav was Mill Reef it was beaten in Gns by Brigadier Gerard in the 2000 gns but went on to win derby and Arc, must say my early punting days were Sir Ivor, Nijinsky and Mill Reef ( what a pleasure)

Old memories from the auld man
