Louis,
You need to go back and re- read his email.
Barry has been nothing but phenomenal for south African racing and breeding. His broodmare band in the USA I'd say is 40% south African.
Chasing a man like that away is not only stupid but ignorant.
Racing capture is still going strong and it seems the Louisg capture is not too far behind.....

I am definitely not captured. In fact, the opposite applies, which you would only know if you really knew what I stand for in racing. As far as chasing team Valor away applies, that is not within my power.
But, I refuse to be one of the sheep on here and I know for sure that our racing has many areas that need huge improvement. However, I really love this Industry and I see a hell of a lot more good than bad in it. Rather than badmouthing Racing daily, I prefer to put in efforts for the good of Racing, behind the scenes.
Barry Irwin could have made this press release on this Friday or on next monday. Why would he have to make this press release just before the Sale ?
Obviously he was expecting the Sale to be a disaster and was riding on that bandwagon, together with so many on here.
I am amazed at how many people on ABC love to trash racing and who specialise in bleating on and on about anything negative. I will not lick team Valors butt. Racing is bigger than any individual's ego. This has been proven many, many times over the years.

Maybe I dont need to read Barry's mail as much as you need to consider that the same investment in SA racing has made a lot of money for Barry and he has had good success from the investment of his members money in SA horses.
For years Barry has been knocking our racing. His tantrums are well documented. Now suddenly, CVN is the latest scapegoat....

.....but Barry has every right to knock our racing because it is far from kosher....I have every right to be as negative because I too look at the way it has gone and is still going and thus speak up when ever I spot a new plot....yes Barry dropped his bombshell on the eve of the sale to get maximum impetus as he is warning the industry of a problem,,,,as for the sale so far so good....the winners are still those in the top end of the market....the only funeral is for okes that thought they could steal some bargains(me included) ......TBA/BSA played a gamble that ensured a better result.....Barry was instrumental on putting our racing in lights when he 1st came here but then witnessed how it became captured,,,,warned and no one stood up to the treat...

Hi Louis, ABC is a platform for people to voice their opinions and if 75% are opposed to your views and 25% in agreement it does not make the site negative, as we have numerous pure racing threads with some superb comments plus tips second to none.
You will find that Sporting Post has the same trends as far as "racing drama" posts are concerned.
There are other sites that still have not acknowledge that the MJ story has ever happened ?
Good punting

Dave
Thanks for pointing out the obvious....
Please just answer one question -
What impression will people have of racing, if their first exposure to it is reading this thread ?
Muhti
Pop in today, prices will definitely ease. Tomorrow is the day, though, for you and me to find our steals....
I am outside on the deck. Was nice to meet Mac there yesterday. Come past- I always look forward to your views and a good debate. More importantly, your finds in terms of pedigrees.

Ok Louis, hope to also see you on Thursday for a wee drink.
You ask about this thread, how about considering the site content
This page:
Dennis Carson
July
Liverpool
Ferrari’s grandson
National sales positive trend
Champions league
Public protector
Kenilworth
UK racing I suggested we may have seen 2000 Gns winner and took 40/1 with HW
Sales review
Stienhoff leak
Vaal
Resist fiddling
July
Lebeoana
Premier league
Winning ways
Craig twins
CTS
Etc
But as you say I will go racing and all I will hear is about the Irwin and MJ posts from us negative bastards
Good punting

A bigger problem is the lack of racecourses.
Having just 8 tracks in such a large country is a concern. Will these be a permanent fixture.
On Windsors first Monday afternoon/evening meeting they had just over a 1000 patrons, the next Monday they made it free entry, they had 8000 patrons.
Make racing free in the week and cheaper at weekends, punters will spend money on the course.

Dear Louis,
I do not know you personally but I am sure I can correct that and make myself known to you when next there is a Cape Town sale on and I happen to spot you amongst the attendees.
I also value the multitude of comments and posts which you upload on this site. They are often informative, instructive and enlightening.
I respect your viewpoint and defend your right to express it.
But........(and there's always a but, isn't there?) you have a nasty habit of referring to other posters using terms & adjectives which sometimes completely discredit what you are trying to rebut. Particularly when their viewpoints don't align with yours.
Your opinion is not the last word on any matter. Nor is mine. It's just an opinion.
The majority of posters on this site are punters. As such they are racing's customers and, even more importantly, racing's funders. There is more than enough evidence to suggest that they have good reason to be concerned and angry about any number of aspects of this sport. I won't labour that point by listing even a handful of those issues as it would make this post too long.
Some of those posters often express their opinions in crude and semi literate terms. Granted.
But to refer to the posters as 'sheep' when your living is dependent upon their patronage is deplorable and an indefensible generalisation.
It's a point which has been missed by racing insiders and management ever since I came into this sport in the 70's.
Most reputable businesses actually PAY for the feedback which this site provides for free. Yet this industry treats most customer responses with disdain or as an irritation.
You inadvertently used the correct adjective when you inserted 'sheep' into your post. Like sheep thousands of racing's customers have migrated to other 'pastures'. Future 'sheep' are unlikely to enter our pasture based on decades of corrupt practise & customer exploitation.
That's just my opinion but the numbers appear to back me.

Just read Turf Talks article regarding Barry leaving, which although I respect his opinions, seems to have been overly dramatic . There was as something mentioned that struck a chord regarding the export issue, of which I have heard rumours of before.
Ie: Individuals profiting from facilities /protocols either existing, or for the future, being factored in to the export equation, rather than just the best deal for the industry.
I'm not into conspiracy theories but the insinuation does raise doubts, particulaly in the light of some of the dealings that have come to light in the recent past.

Re: Team Valor Quits South African Racing
7 years 1 month ago.....one must take into account that when one goes on the defensive and the 1st words out of the mouth is that it is a non-profit organization....these people are not exactly doing it for free.....it must be great to be able to dilly dally around and earn a above average salary....and in your quest make great international contacts....then start advising them on local purchases get a fee on your recommendations....then get to manage a racing portfolio for a stipend....while very little progress is made on the export of our bloodstock....if the cap fits....then they wear it well..... :whistle:drdom wrote: Just read Turf Talks article regarding Barry leaving, which although I respect his opinions, seems to have been overly dramatic .
