According to FORBES Kobus Wiese had lost $2.1 billion by 11h40 on Wednesday. This equated to 54.2% of his net worth.

Whichever way one looks at it, Markus Jooste has caused serious and possible irreversable harm to many many people which may run into billions and billions of dollars.

Did he see the writing on the wall when he changed ownership of all his horses from his personal name into the name of Mayfair. Although the downfall took place overnight, it must habe been known to be coming for some time to some especially to Markus Jooste.

Few have considered why he resigned as a director of Phumelela and why not many of the hundred others companies where he is a director. What, if anything, has happened in Phumelela that we have not been told about. Is it financial irregularities?

The best way to interpret the apology is:

I have screwed up. I have made serious money out of the company. I know I have caused big harm to you. I left the mess for you to live with and clean up if you can. I am out of here to try and enjoy my gains obtained by my big mistakes. I enjoyed the ride. The bus has stopped for me to get off. You stay on and endure it all.
