Advice needed
16 years 11 months ago
Hi Guys
I wonder if our knowledgable clansmen (trainers and owners) could help me with the following issue that I have.
A certain trainer ( u know who) has been provisionally liquidated. The liquidator and Deputy Sheriff has taken possession of 10 unraced horses and included it in the forthcoming Sibaya sales. These dob of these horses are late 2004 and were bought in the 2006 yearling sales. The prices at the time ranged from 30k to 135k.
(the total price paid for all 10 was 530k. We have offerred 250k for all 10 and this has been accepted in principle.
We want to view and scan the chip on the horses. They are currently on a spelling farm and the people on the farm do not know which horse is which.
I have currently halted my intentions at this point of time as I have been told by certain trainers that da value of unraced 4 year olds would have reduced markedly, and we could buy it cheaper at the sale.
What are your thoughts taking into consideration the following:
1. The horses will be 4 year olds this year.
2. We have no idea what they were being fed in the last year.
3. If purchased, we will have to sell off or syndicate at least 5.
4. Because of their age, they will have a shorter racing career.
Comments Please

East. Myadvice to you is that surely they must be identified to go to the sale,so then you can go to sibaya and pick which one's you want and im sure you will get them at reasonable price instead of buying all ten.

I suggest you stand at the fence and shout "SHERGAR" and buy the one that turns its head and forget the rest!

Thanx for all your advice. Thats my feeling as well -walk away but still not 100% sure.
as for breeds, there are ffg:
Mogok - Midlands Meander
Mogok - Pretty Groovy
Woodborough - Surf Action
Al Mufti - War women
Mans Hood - Colgar
Classic Flag - Home Cooking
Ceasour - Privy Council
Winter Romance - Geraldines Choice, ETC Etc
Yes Grecko they have been identified but that was before it went to the spelling farm and the guys at the farm do not know which is which. I am hesitant in getting the Jockey Club involved in the identification as I feel the purchase might not be worth it in the end.

Well they will be 'identified' at the sale that's for sure - as not to do so would be regarded as fraud.
Why not have a chat with some trainers and see if any would like to train any of said stock. If there are a couple they's welcome - concentrate on them, and then set yourself a 'strict' price limit and bid accordingly.
All the best - Jim.
