The bus is leaving for the course fully loaded for starters, 26 runners on the day. I think they will leave the course with the 26 runners and maybe a Big Bear.

Race 4 - Cascapedia 33/10, Bi-Pot 6/1
Guns and Roses is unfortunately scratched - she was my best bet of the day but she's picked up a virus. I think Cascapedia hated the soft going LTO and you could see she was struggling to make the ground - she's also 6 months behind the rest of them so that should be kept in mind. Much more suited to the Standside, I'm willing to give her another chance.
Bi Pot is a high class filly and you do get the feeling 9 furlongs is her best trip. Her best race was at the c&d behind Orchid Island in the Classic. 3rd run after rest, she's dropped 3 points which should make her very competitive here.
Race 5 - Surcharge 9/2, Takingthepeace 10/1
Surcharge is a lovely sort and though he is quite good, he'll be tested from draw 15. But the master is on board and he should get him over and handy early. He likes racing handy and that shouldn't be a problem. Should appreciate the standside and on level weights, I think he'll go very close if overcoming that draw.
Very close between Big Bear and Takingthepeace for my 2nd choice but I've leaned towards the filly slightly. Very impressive comeback with 62kgs - She goes 1400m for the first time but her dam ran 3rd in the Empress Club and 3rd in the Yellowwood(1800m) so she should be fine in theory. The draw shouldn't a problem because I think Delpech will keep her off the pace and make his move late.
Of the others, I really like Big Bear.
Race 6 - Silver Thursday 4/1, Folk Dance 11/2
Silver Thursday was very impressive LTO and is still improving. She should be able to make a bold bid in this field.
Folk Dance has of course beaten the above and ran an amazing 3rd in a group 1. That was over the mile and she was green as grass - now back over a furlong less - Gavin should negate that draw and take her to the front again. If she's fit enough, then she will go very close indeed, classy horse.
Race 7 - Classify 7/1, Social Order 14/1
Classify has been a revelation hasn't he? Great for a PE raider to make such a big impact in JHB. I know the mile is not his best trip but I think there's a bit of improvement in there left and he's thriving here. Nice weight turnaround with FF and off 52kgs, I don't see why he won't be there at the business end.
I'm putting a line through Social Order's last run. I mentioned on here I was worried about the track and he never seemed to get going LTO. I go back to his Heritage run which was much more the real Social Order - if that one comes to the track then he'll make 14/1 look silly.
Race 8 - Hakeem 6/1, Orpheus 9/1
also think if Hafla gets away on terms, she should win.

I have heard Guns and Roses was(is) Bi pots work companion - For me I thought Woody would win with one of them - I will have Bi Pot.
I think Folk Dance is the best 3yr old filly in Gauteng but perhaps her mission are the better races later on but I was mighty impressed with her

The kind of card that will have many different opinions - lots of formlines to compare and horses to rate - my initial thoughts:
R2: Columbina and Ensemble if the de Kock hottie fails to start again
R3: Schippers
R4: Royal Utopia - roughie Banking April who ran a great race last time
R5: Wonderwall - but the draw is a worry; roughie Puget Sound
R6: Mrs O from Silver Thursday and Dame Kelly
R7: Classify from Finchatton - Hat Puntano ???
R8: Flying Free - draw a worry so maybe Zen Arcade can challenge him
R9: Barrack Street from Alfolk
R10: Mujaafy
R11: Judd's Rocket
R12: ???? - maybe a first timer ?
Enjoy

Some value on offer:
Race 4: Banking April 12/1. Her last run was way above her rating, and if that was not a flash in the pan, she wins this. On that run she is 12kg better off with Bipot for 2L. She was only 3L behind Fort Ember at level weights- imagine what price that one would be carrying 59kg in this race? The handicapper could not adjust her as it was a conditions race.
Royal Utopia is also well in here. She won a good race last time over this trip, and she is also better than rated, albeit seems best over further.
Race 5: Brave Mary at 7/1 is very well in, although she has earned her rating over sprints. Her breeding suggests that the 1400m should not be a problem. Wonderwall is the best of the colts, but these lightly raced youngsters can show dramatic improvement.
Race 6: Mrs O showed vast improvement last time and is preferred to Silver Thursday.
Race 8: Zen Arcade, 7/1, has looked special from day one and although he must travel from Kzn, has the draw advantage over Flying Free and Hakeem.
Race 11: National Aim at 7/1 from draw 1 looks better value than Judd's Rocket, although not certain to get the trip.
