It's generally more to do with the "class" of the horses that he is riding at present, rather than him doing something wrong. My opinion, he can't be faulted for trying something different thereby giving the horse a chance, rather than doing what has already been tried and still getting beaten - if that makes sense.

To prove the point, if you look back at Variety Club, Act Of War, William Longsword, to name but a few, Marcus took those horses to the front, irrespective of the draw, because he knew they were good enough to win. In a similar vein, people still wax lyrical about the ride on Jay Peg.

He will get it right on one of these lesser lights.
